Pat Robertson, who every so often says something really outrageous just to get attention, has apologized for saying Ariel Sharon's stroke was God's retribution for giving up the Gaza strip. He wrote a letter to Ariel Sharon's son. In part, he said: "My zeal, my love of Israel, and my concern for the future safety of your nation led me to make remarks which I can now view in retrospect as inappropriate and insensitive in light of a national grief experienced because of your father's illness. I ask your forgiveness and the forgiveness of the people of Israel for saying what was clearly insensitive at the time." That's an understatement.
But the real story here is how much attention is paid to Pat Robertson when he says the things that he does. The agenda is clear: to paint every Republican and conservative as a right-wing extremist nutcase. So now Pat Robertson has apologized...and he'll go back to his TV show. Sometime down the line he'll say something outrageous, and it will be the top story on CNN again.
The media really is becoming quite predictable.

Pat Robertson to Israel: "Me so sorry. Now show me the money!"
Pat Robertson lives in a Cave.
Still sticking to his statement I see. Only apologizing for the timing of it.
I like Pat. He's a good guy, and far from a "dumb ass." But, he really should know that he is in the media crosshairs now, and has been since 1988.
Every word he speaks is scrutinized by the MSM to see if they can squeeze some "look how extreme these rightwing nutjobs are" mileage out of it. Context is irrelevent.
That this is a "story" shows the desperation of the MSM.
Pat Robertson should move into a cave...and stay there.
My word, he is such a putz.
The agenda is clear: to paint every Republican and conservative as a right-wing extremist nutcase.
Won't argue with that but, in Pat Robertson's case and IMO, he is a nutcase.
Right, they're not having to paint anything in regards to Pat.
When you say that God has basically struck down the leader of a staunch ally of the US and a place where you want to put your latest theme park you qualify as a "dumb ass".
The media doesn't have to try to make Pat look like a nutjob, he does a bang up job of that all by himself. His family should commit him.
Operation Blessing, Christian Coalition and all the good things that he has done notwithstanding--perhaps it is time to get off the stage.
Well, I disagree.
He merely quoted a Scripture reference that suggests that those who "divide" God's land will be punished. I disagree with his opinion that this is the case with Sharon.
But, just because I disagree with him, doesn't make him a dumbass.
BTW, he has done more for good for the conservative movement than you will do in 1000 lifetimes.
Boortz is correct, but there more importantly is the agenda to use Robertson or Falwell's occasional faux pax to broad-brush every Christian as a "right-wing nut case."
Opponent and allies alike in taking this bait contributes to undermining socially conservative issues.
Correction: More good and more damage than most of us could do in 1000 lifetimes.
The problem with Pat is that they don't have to look hard, or even try hard to get a nutjob angle. Pat does a fine job embarassing Christians all by himself, and he himself broadcasts it nationwide.
As all people that are in the limelight does!!!!
Isn't that the truth!!!!!!
