I've been watching CSPAN for most of yesterday and today.

I've never watched or listened to a confirmation hearing this closely before, but, I have followed them on a daily basis.

This one is disgusting and gives me a sick feeling.

:O(

Negotiations are now going on for the vote to take place Thursday instead of Tuesday. I hate those dirty rats.

It's too late to hold them to a promise - they never made one. All they did was give their word.

GOP would be smart to illustrate that the word was broken, again. The only time to make them pay is "in the now," because their promises for the future are worthless. There cannot be negotiation in good faith with these weasles. Bring it up as a motion, and get the votes. Seal the deal. Anything short of that is a smokescreen lie.

Of course, this is probably the reason you'll sit out in November to "send a mesage",no? There was only one guy who was perfect, and the last time I checked, he was a damned good carpenter. Yes, I wish Alito hired more conservatives, but give it a break. I doubt Luttig's record was any better, and he was feared by the Bushies to "grow in office", if you know what that means.

Democrats look to delay Alito vote
By Charles Hurt
THE WASHINGTON TIMES

Frist on Alito Floor Action
[Ed Whelan 01/13 09:37 PM]
All of what follows is from a press release from Senate majority leader Frist’s office:

“With the continued uncertainty over whether the minority will keep to a timeframe of voting, up or down, on Judge Alito on Friday, January 20, Senator Frist today made the following announcements to his Senate Republican colleagues on an afternoon conference call:

· Whenever the Judiciary Committee reports out the Alito nomination, the full Senate will begin work on the nominee the next business day.

· If Democrats delay final action past January 20th, he will cancel the recess for the week of January 23rd which he had previously scheduled with the knowledge of Minority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV).

LOL - from the nationalreview site (I went at your suggestion and link above) comes the following - excerpted because you need to read the entire article. This is tooo funny!

The subject is the CAP article that Kennedy used to rail against Alito, and used in an attempt to tar Alito as associating with a bigoted group, the CAP.

Yesterday, we wondered about the article from the Concerned Alumni of Princeton's magazine, Prospect, that Ted Kennedy used to discredit that organization. It sounded suspiciously like a humor piece. ...

"People nowadays just don't seem to know their place. Everywhere one turns, blacks and Hispanics are demanding jobs simply because they're black and Hispanic. The physically handicapped are trying to gain equal representation in professional sports. And homosexuals are demanding the government vouchsafe them the right to bear children."

... You can read the full Prospect article on Kennedy's site. Its subject is a lawsuit by a female Princeton student who wanted to be admitted to an all-male eating club at the university. As the title suggests, it argues more broadly that elitism isn't a bad thing. The article is written in an arch style that doesn't do much for me, and I don't think it's very good. But there isn't anything especially offensive or even controversial in it.

Dinesh D'Souza was the editor of Prospect at the time, and he confirms that the article, by H. W. Crocker III, now an editor for Regnery Books, was a satire ...

http://powerlineblog.com/archives/012824.php

Oh my - it should have been obvious without hindsight, given the comments by those where WERE members of CAP who discussed it's function and purposes. But in open Senate hearings, Kennedy used a piece of writing that he couldn't recognize as satire, morphs it into a serious piece of bigotry and attempts to tar Alito by association.

Oh please please please, I hope the fact that this was satire gets into the public psyche. Pretty please?

Kennedy has no shame.
I was aware it was satire but I don't think the dumocrats get it or care even if they do.

First, I want to thank you for the insight, thoughts, and knowledge you shared with us during these hearings. I've enjoyed and learned from them.

I'm curious as to how many other judicial positions are still open and the status of each (e.g., need nomination by President Bush and/or approval by the Senate). Does anyone have a list?

Thanks!
SC

"You know, every dem Senator and most the dem witnesses seem to be obsessed with the idea that they have to pull power away from the executive branch."

Did they speak out about that issue when Clinton was issuing Executive Orders?

A search of the topic of Clinton Executive Orders is revealing, including this one !

Why weren't Kennedy et al complaining about this extensive overreaching of Executive power?

Hillary Clinton's own private grudge match
Saturday, January 07, 2006

Why is Sen. Clinton so particularly vindictive toward Brett Kavanaugh? Apparently, for simple revenge. Mr. Kavanaugh was an important mid-level attorney on the staff of Independent Counsel Kenneth Starr, whose investigation of course is famous for leading to the impeachment of her husband.

But the senator's vendetta against Mr. Kavanaugh is misplaced. No less an authority than famed Watergate journalist Bob Woodward reported in his book on the Starr investigation that Mr. Kavanaugh, then only in his early 30s, was the voice of wisdom on the Starr team. Mr. Kavanaugh was one of two key lawyers who urged Mr. Starr not to include all the prurient details of the Lewinsky affair into the counsel's main report to Congress.

Again and again, Mr. Woodward portrayed Mr. Kavanaugh as being a fact-based straight shooter with little personal interest in going for the proverbial jugular against the Clintons.

Not only that, but it was Mr. Kavanaugh whose main handiwork for the counsel's office was the report that exonerated the Clintons from allegations by conspiracists concerning the sad death of Clinton associate Vince Foster.

http://www.al.com/opinion/.../113662906916520.xml&coll=3

Assuming for the sake of argument that Hillary! is the person behind the return, it seems a more likely reason is that Kavanaugh failed to complete his mission, which appears to be reasonable coverup of Foster evidentiary disputes and the stifling of other evidence from Starr report. That is, not that Kavanaugh is an enemy of Clinton, rather, he is a failed soldier.
