Day 3: Questioning Continues
This morning, Round 1 concludes with Senators on the Judiciary Cmte. who did not question nominee Alito yesterday. During Round 2, questioning is limited to 20 minutes for each of the eight- een senators. Chairman Arlen Specter (R-PA) leads off, followed by the others, alternating by party in order of seniority.

perhaps. if Feingold had publicly announced he was flipping to support Alito, that news would be all over the place.
At 3,234, someone posted that AP did cleanup their earlier misleading caption.
That was my take also. I was multi-tasking and could not believe my ears, Fiengold had been speaking, I thought that he was still speaking when I heard the support for Alito but when I looked up it was Brownback. I thought that it sounded too good to be true. DARN
After Graham was up, there was a break and after the break Mr. and Mrs. Alito entered the hearing room hand in hand and she was smiling again.
This is the way I saw it, both live and on numerous repeats.
Two more law clerks for Alito
We just met wth two more of Judge Alito's former law clerks, Jim Goniea and Susan Sullivan (1990-91). They met during their clerkship, married each other and now have two children. They live and work in San Francisco and describe themselves as Democrats of the social progressive persuasion.
They have come out to support Judge Alito as a man of sterling character and an exemplary judge. They say they are confident that he will not advance a political agenda. They say the imputation of racism to Judge Alito and the implication that he supports discrimination is personally offensive to them. They consider it an embarrassment to senators they would otherwise support. Jim describes the venture as a terrible attempt to discredit a man of unassailable integrity in front of milions of people.
Susan emphasized her personal support for abortion rights; neither Jim nor Susan has any idea of Judge Alito's views on abortion despite the fact that they worked with Judge Alito during the year that Judge Alito participated in the Third Circuit's decision in Casey. She has written an op-ed that she has titled "Don't [mess] with Judge Alito." Only she didn't use the word "mess." I have asked her to forward us a copy so that we might post it on our site if it isn't published somewhere else we can link.
Both Jim and Susan are powerfully persuasive supporters of Judge Alito's nomination. I understand that Judge Alito's law clerks are holding a press conference tomorrow. I hope their comments find an outlet in the media.
Prairiebreeze again: Jim describes the venture as a terrible attempt to discredit a man of unassailable integrity in front of milions of people
Well DUH!
yes, but this story was never about how many Dems would support Alito. who cares, we have the votes. this story was always about whether our majority would hold together to support Atito. frankly, I want every single Dem to vote against Alito on the floor. I would also love a fillibuster that we broke using the constitutional option.
forget what the Dems do, its our weak hands that we have to keep an eye on. so long as we hold, Alito is in.
Ditto that!
I missed the panel because of a phone call. WHAT DID THEY SAY about Mrs. Alito???
Dick Turbin starts outs.
I'm going to watch a bit. Busy work day.
Just tuned in....thanks! Haven't seen any of this yet. Alito looks pretty good.
Thanks for posting that transcript, YaYa. Very interesting and really points to just how disgusting the democrats are in trying to paint Alito as a bigot and sexist.
Wouldn't you like to just punch Begala right in one of his beady little eyes?
Boy, I would.
He was not in favor of impeachment, but warning what the democrats plan were, especially if they capture the House in '08.
The blogs have done a better job than the MSM in reporting on these hearings, imo. Thanks for pointing that out, prairie, about just how many Democrats, staunch Democrats, have said that Alito has a sterling reputation.
Exactly, 100% right. I've experience, we've all experienced, I'll bet, the exact same reactions as Mrs. Alito.
This has broken my heart. And henceforth, Democrats will be referred to by me as what they are. Rats. Not leftists. Not Democrats. Not liberals. Rats.
Despicable Rats.
When people attack those we love, we get angry and defend our loved ones. And when someone shows great kindness, like Lindsey Graham did today, the kindness undoes us.
