Although I agree that Alito is a better candidate than Meiers, I will never agree with the tactics used to get Meiers to withdraw. Many conservative pundits lost my respect over their behavior last fall, and they will have a hard time regaining it.

I disagree. I defended her pretty vigorously here. I was wrong.

Dick Durbin says:

"Why doesn't the mean government give everything away to anybody who asks?"

Durbin is down for the count after Alito's last retort.

Will not be able to rise.

the mentally retarded and now the miners - this is total misrepresentation = but that's the way the DEMS operate.

I would bet $10 dollars before these hearings are over, the democrats will try to blame Judge Alito for the dams breaking in New Orleans last year.

LOL, Durbin is trying to tar Alito with membership in the Federalist Society.

Are you now or have you ever been a member of the Federalist Society.... asked Senator McTurbin.

Alito just told Durbin to stuff it... In a calm and reasoned manner.

Exactly Right. Arguing with Durbin would be akin to kicking a little yapping dog.

Miers would have been roasted in this forum. Instead of this fine victory we are looking at we would have had an unmitigated disaster.

That's exactly what I have been thinking, and what I thought at the time of the Miers nomination fiasco.

Had Meirs been given "her right to a hearing," she would have been publicly humiliated, her nomination would have been rightly rejected by Democrats AND Republican alike, we would have suffered a serious and likely permanent setback in our objective to return the Supreme Court to its Constitutional function, the Republicans would have suffered an enormous public relations black eye, the Dems would have been emboldened to even greater opposition the next time around, and potential candidates would be more reluctant to accept nomination.

In short, we would have snatched defeat from the jaws of victory.

they do. Their staffers write them up.
The staffers get them from the pressure groups.
That's why they keep hitting abortion(NARAL), CAP (NAACP, Vanguard (Trial Lawyers association) and "the little guy" (public citizen,PFAW, Move-on).

They don't have an original thought.
