I'm not sure about 'plants.'
The media accuses him of that in these town meetings, but as one who was part of one, having a daughter who asked him a question, I can state with absolute certainty that none of the questioners were 'planted.'
No one had a clue as to what she was going to say except my daughter. (But it was a great question, if I do say so myself. ;)

The Kennedy Spectre confrontation today gets funnier and funnier the more times I hear it.Rush played the exchange twice, nearly in a row, and the funniest part is when Specter tells Kennedy that Kennedy is not going to run his committee for him then slams his gavel down really hard and sharp.
I hope the Daily Kos'ers and the rest of the leftist blogosphere and fringe kooks keep prodding the Democrats on this committee. The more they keep prodding, the more the Democrats look like buffoons.

For some reason, this keeps coming to mind:
Isn't it rich, are we a pair?
Me here at last on the ground,
You in mid-air.
Send in the clowns.
Isn't it bliss, don't you approve?
One who keeps tearing around
One who can't move
Where are the clowns?
Send in the clowns.
Just when I'd stopped opening doors,
Finally knowing the one that I wanted was yours.
Making my entrance again with my usual flair,
Sure of my lines;
No one is there.
Don't you love farce?
My fault I fear,
I thought that you'd want what I want,
Sorry my dear
But where are the clowns
Send in the clowns
Don't bother, they're here.
Isn't it rich, isn't it queer
Losing my timing this late in my career
But where are the clowns
there ought to be clowns
Well, maybe next year.

This way Kennedy can claim an excuse to delay, filibuster, until the records are released and combed over.
Interesting to see how Spectre will handle this. Bet staffers had to skip lunch today!

several horses have been beaten to death But the horses' asses on the judiciary committee still need to be slapped around a lot more.

The lady in the background is Alito's wife and daughter.
I thought the lady to his wife's left was his sister (a lawyer) and the daughter and son were on the other side.

As you said, he's at his best with the people in a more relaxed setting.
I doubt it will be replayed by C span if it shows him at his best. Maybe at 3:00 in the morning....

Actually..watching the Dems at these hearings is about as rewarding as watching the Ryder truck drive the ballots up to Tallahassee from Miami in 2000..

Regarding delay and stall tactics by Kennedy:
Specter should say to Kennedy something to the effect of "Just let me get this straight, for the record, for the benefit of your supporters: you are planning to vote for Judge Alito, but you might find something in Rusher's papers that would change your mind?"

It is TIME for a Republican Senator to ask for the POLICE RECORDS of Kennedy to be entered into the record.
Make a big stink, read press reports from the time of the murder, ask Kennedy if her murder was premeditated, or if he was just to drunk to care.
Ask for a sup of Kennedy's medical records on his supposed injuries.

There is no "there" there, apparently. From the Corner:
"David Kirkpatrick wrote about them in November in the NYTimes (November 27, 2005, "From Alito's Past, a Window On Conservatives at Princeton") and concluded: "Those records and others at Mudd Library at Princeton give no indication that Judge Alito, who sits on the United States Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit, was among the group's major donors. He was not an active leader of the group, and two of his classmates who were involved and Mr. Rusher said they did not remember his playing a role."
Re: Rusher Records on CAP
[Ed Whelan 01/11 01:44 PM]
"David Kirkpatrick's November 27, 2005, article in the New York Times makes clear that he was given access to the Rusher records. The fact that he found nothing in them about Alito ought to put an end to this silliness. Or does Kennedy want to subpoena David Kirkpatrick?"
