Plymouth, Mass. -- Police shot and killed a 16-year-old boy early Tuesday after he drove a car at them while fleeing the scene of a possible burglary attempt, authorities said.
The two officers opened fire, killing Anthony McGrath, following a high-speed chase that started at a liquor store in Plymouth.
"My son got a death sentence," the boy's mother, Denise McGrath, told reporters. "I want to know who killed my son for no reason at all."

"I want to know who killed my son for no reason at all." Attempted robbery, felony flight and attempted murder is "no reason at all?"
In what alternate universe?

Another candidate for the annual Darwin award. In fact, there are two new candidates, the dead perp and his mother. What a moron saying what she is reported to have said, after her loser son tried to run over two cops. He got exactly what he deserved in this case, and I hope mama has learned a lesson.

"My son got a death sentence," the boy's mother, Denise McGrath, told reporters. "I want to know who killed my son for no reason at all."Your little punk was killed for an excellent reason, Mother McGrath. He drove his car at two police officers who shot him in self defense.

"I used to be a peace officer and I don't know exactly when the paradigm changed from getting out of the way to opening fire. Without knowing the facts it's hard to say. It seems like that it is sop to fire on a moving vehicle these days. Our policy was to not fire at or from a moving vehicle unless there was an immediate threat to our life or the life of others"
I was never a cop but I worked for the police and read the manuals - Your experience seems to match the rules in Georgia in the 80's.
But it's to tell from this article. Were they in a narrow alley with the kid accelerating towards them after clearly seeing there were cops in the alley? Any rational person would defend themselves in that case.
But on TV, you see cops jump in front of the car to get a better shot - in that case it does not seem justified to me for a common thief.

Our policy was to not fire at or from a moving vehicle unless there was an immediate threat to our life or the life of others... The article states that he drove the car at them...sounds like an immediate threat to me.

Looking at this young man I will let Wikipedia encyclopedia speak for me on this matter.
He probably couldn't hear over the loud RAP music he was blasting in his car.

and yeah, his momma did raise a fool. Look on the positive aspects of her parenting.
Mama didn't let her son grow up to be a cowboy.

When you threaten the life of any police officer citizen, you should expect some form of force to be taken- including getting shot. Glad to hear that there is 1 more dirtbag off the streets.

This happened literally a block from my house. I didn't hear anything last night even though the chase went right by my house and didn't even find out about it until internet news this morning. But my husband and I go to this liquor store all the time. Freaky.

Local radio reported that he drove at them, hit a parked car, hit a utility pole and then made a second attempt to hit them.

The alarm at Richard's Wine and Spirits sounded around 3:20 a.m., and as an officer arrived, he saw a vehicle leaving the area, Botieri said. This woman hands out the car keys, lets her 16-year-old son stay out all night and she wants to know what happened to him??
I bet he was a straight "A" student too.
By the way, where's dad???
To: SmithL
At least he wasn't strip searched.

According to an article I read, he wasn't even in school. He was working odd jobs for a landscaping company. Sounds like he had a great mother.

Q. In what alternate universe?
A. Massachusetts. Duh...
As a former Masshole, I know that A.G. Riley will go after the cops who defended themselves, this being an election year and him having aspirations to be Governor.

3:20 a.m. Why was this child out at this time of the night? His mom is upset he's dead. I'd be too. I have three boys, however, nothing good is done at this time of night. Did she know where her son was? From the story, it sounds like the police acted in self-defense. I'd say she needs to be investigated for neglect. People think I'm nuts because I want to know where my boys are, who they are with, and what they are doing 24/7. They still get into trouble, but they have curfews and are definitely in bed at that time of night. My heart goes out to the family as well as the police officers. Dealing with a death like this is hard for everyone.

Prime material for Ed Kennedy to investigate. He's good with cars.

You killed your son, lady. By your negligence and irresponsibility, letting him (a minor) run around with the car keys at 3 in the morning, and consequently robbing a Liquor store. It all starts at home and unfortunately two police officers have to live with having to kill your son due to the consequences of your irresponsible parenting.
