I had the privilege of meeting Joshua Sparling's father and brother at yesterday evening's FReep. (History of Joshua here.) They came down to meet us, and Joshua was kind enough to send some candy and other goodies down for our supportive vigil. More details will be in the weekly AAR, but I wanted to touch on one point.
Although the response to Joshua's predicament has been absolutely overwhelming, they have only received six cards - total - from Michigan. Why is that such a big deal? It's Joshua's home. And he's been featured in several newspapers, including Lansing's publication.
I just wanted to put out a friendly request to any Michigan FReepers to send Joshua a card - a belated Christmas card, a get-well or thank-you note, or a simple letter. Just to let him know his home state is aware and appreciative of his family's sacrifices.
Thinking of including a phone card? NO!! :-) His family said they have been completely overwhelmed by phone cards. They're very grateful, but don't need anymore. If you want to include something, FReepmail me for one idea. Thank you for your support, and thanks to JimRob for providing us this amazing forum.
Thank you very much. If you get a chance, please post a link to this thread to the Michigan state forum as well.
Thanks!

What else did Mr. Sparling say?
A card will be in the mail on Monday.
Everyone knows those nuts in Michigan have probably been watching football! Glad to hear Michigan is going to get on this ball!
I can't wait to read the AAR on this FReep!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thank you. Has a link to this been posted on the Michigan forum?

Please send him a get well card or other communication of your love, prayers, and support as explained in Coop's initial post at the beginning of the thread.
So far, he has gotten few messages from Michigan supporting him, despite the large number of great patriots and FReepers there. Thus, I reluctantly, ping all of Michigan to remedy this problem.
War-wounded hero Joshua Sparling now lies in Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, DC fighting to keep his leg and to try to recover as best he can. Yet, he had previously received a Christmas card from a leftist telling him to die.
Coop, Landry Fan, PleaDeal and others of the DC Chapter have spearheaded efforts to counter the vicious hate mail from the leftist, both by helping Joshua and also by encouraging other wounded troops at Walter Reed.
Landry Fan, a true angel of mercy, has met with Joshua personally as described on her great blog.
Many of us DC Chapter members and fellow patriots had the honor of meeting with Joshua's Dad and brother when they joined as we countered blood dancing Code Pinkos outside Walter Reed in very cold and breezy conditions last Friday. A skirmish of that struggle was described here, the full report on the event is pending.
Please pray for Joshua and all our brave troops and make sure that the troop-hatred of the left is countered by your own cards and letters letting Joshua know that Michigan cares.
Would one of you FReepers be so kind as to cross-reference this thread by posting a link to it on the Michigan board and a brief explanation of the need for Michigan to send cards and letters to Joshua Sparling?

You can see at 29 and 30 that I've pinged all of Michigan (every FReeper listing Michigan as their location) and also repeated Coop's call for a reference to the Joshua on the Michigan board.
Let's go Michigan!
I've already already received a FReepmail from one Michigan FReeper who thanked me for the ping and promised to send a letter or card. Only 561 Michigan FReepers to go, but I also hope that they will get their relatives, friends, and co-workers involved as well.
You see why I need a good proofreader. "already" appeared twice in a row in #33.
Maybe I need to have you proofread my posts before I post them? Anyway, how many mistakes in the key posts of #29 and 30? I hope I didn't make too many, but even if I did, I won't apologize :), 'cause it's for a great cause.

I so much appreciate the ping. I will be sending another note tomorrow.
I must have been one of the six! I saw his story on Tony Snow's website and sent one right away (early December). I was just sorry I was too broke to include a gift card or send something to cheer him up, like a handheld game. In hindsight, maybe I should send a box of homemade chocolate chip cookies!
Can they accept that kind of thing from strangers?
Thank you for cross-referencing to the Michigan board. And so quickly too.
