Joshua Sparling Update: Special Call to Michigan FReepers
1/6/06 personal meeting with Joshua's father and brother ^ | 1/7/06 | Coop

Posted on 01/07/2006 1:39:24 PM PST by Coop

I had the privilege of meeting Joshua Sparling's father and brother at yesterday evening's FReep. (History of Joshua here.) They came down to meet us, and Joshua was kind enough to send some candy and other goodies down for our supportive vigil. More details will be in the weekly AAR, but I wanted to touch on one point.

Although the response to Joshua's predicament has been absolutely overwhelming, they have only received six cards - total - from Michigan. Why is that such a big deal? It's Joshua's home. And he's been featured in several newspapers, including Lansing's publication.

I just wanted to put out a friendly request to any Michigan FReepers to send Joshua a card - a belated Christmas card, a get-well or thank-you note, or a simple letter. Just to let him know his home state is aware and appreciative of his family's sacrifices.

Thinking of including a phone card? NO!! :-) His family said they have been completely overwhelmed by phone cards. They're very grateful, but don't need anymore. If you want to include something, FReepmail me for one idea. Thank you for your support, and thanks to JimRob for providing us this amazing forum.

I'm not trying to steal BillF's thunder here. He does a fine job of doing after-action reports for our Friday night counterprotests of Code Pink. But the sooner you get those cards in the mail...

You may mail notes to Joshua at the following address, or you're welcome to send them to me (FReepmail me) for personal delivery.

PFC Joshua Sparling
Walter Reed Army Medical Center
6900 Georgia Avenue N.W.

Washington, D.C. 20307-5001

And kudos to California and Georgia - those two states were mentioned by Mr. Sparling as having sent the most cards their way. Nicely done!

Leofl Here!!!

I took had the privilige of meeting Joshua Sparling's Father. Please send a card or a letter to this heroes family. His father was an absolute "Old School" Gentlemen and his brother was also a pleasure.

And you have a chance to join the DC and Maryland Freepers on a Friday here at Walter Reed, IT will warm your heart. These are fantastic folks!!!!!!!!!!!

Also it will do your funny bone good to see the Code Pinkos getting the one finger salute from the folks passing by.

Could one of you please ping the Canteen crew? I'm sure there are a few Michiganders among the mix. Thanks!

Canteen Ping!! For those of you who don't recognize the name, Joshua Sparling was the soldier who received the "I Hope You Die" card while recovering from his wounds at Walter Reed.
