WASHINGTON
Embattled Rep. Tom DeLay decided Saturday to give up his post as House majority leader, clearing the way for new leadership elections among House Republicans eager to shed the taint of scandal, two officials said.
These officials said DeLay, R-Texas, was preparing a letter informing fellow House Republicans of his decision. These officials spoke on condition of anonymity, saying they did not want to pre-empt the formal announcement.
DeLay is battling campaign finance charges in Texas and was forced to step aside temporarily as majority leader last fall after he was charged in his home state. He has consistently maintained his innocence and said he intended to resume his leadership post once cleared.
"That's Barbara Streisand. Give some examples where Flake has been a better leader then Delay"
How about voting his principles as a small-government conservative 100% of the time?
Well ON ANY BUDGET BILL,or Spending bill or anything that involves money.
Ok, thanks.
No, it's your sarcasm I want you to explain
Nope.
The GOP "leadership" failed as usual to stand tall and back one of its warriors....
But this gives them an excuse to plug in yet another RINO into Party as it continue drifting towards the center.
Did DeLay cite his dance with Earle as the reason for stepping aside?
"Why do they let the rats get away with doing this crap to them day in and day out?"
No leadership among Republicans.
Everyone is pissing and moaning what a loss this is, I don't think so, he has the brains to get out of the way.
Duke Cunningham wore a wire to get Abramoff, the question is why is Reid so quiet all of a sudden? Who else did Duke get on tape?.
I think this Justice Dept investigation/Abramoff deal is going to be huge with many ending up in chromium bracelets, best to get the hell out of the way....
The dims are starting to talk about Pelosi not being what they need right now and would like to possibly replace her. Do you think she'll 'step-down' for the good of her party or tell them all to shut the hell up, she isn't going anywhere.
THIS SUCKS!!
For every action, there is a reaction. Delay's leadership has been strong and tough, and has earned him many enemies, even with conservatives inside his own caucus.
Blunt will be an excellent majority leader, and has very close personal ties with GWB; much closer than Delay does.
Does anyone know the date of the State of the Union address? I cannot find it; usually it's the last Tuesday in January? Thanks
"It will probably be Tancredo who calls for him to resign just like he did almost a year ago."
I've explained this to you and Dane 1000x, you open-borders troll.
Delay has been a major obstructionist on border security.
One year ago, Sensenbrenner and 117 or so other Congressment held up the Homeland Security bill because Delay wouldn't attach BORDER SECURITY provisions. He said they would address it in the new year... Well, guess what happened.
Delay lied to secure votes for a pork-ridden bill that didn't include border security as a part of homeland security.
He also said there was no fat left to trim from the budget - another lie.
Yeah, he can get bills passed - big pork bills, by lying.
You are right on
"I've explained this to you and Dane 1000x, you open-borders troll."
LOL!
Crotchety bump!...and I'm a curmudgeon to boot!
"Crotchety Cuurmudgeons Unite!"
FMCDH(BITS)...I have little faith in any of our elected officials...
Me:BTW, your link makes no mention of DeLay."
Your link simply says "leadership". It offers no named sources. It also says that leadership wanted to reform our nation's intelligence agencies as soon as possible. It didn't say that leadership didn't want immigration reform.
There's a logical difference.
If you wish to make a point, you should demonstrate it. Else you haven't made a point.
"Damn, don't you think Delay would if that stance would always work?"
NO
