Yes, college teams may change but Oklahoma was sufficiently stable enough to go to the national championship game 2 years in a row (something LSU couldn't do.)

Exactly, Oklahoma played in a relatively weak Big-12 while LSU played in an SEC that was very strong.

This is nothing against the Big-12. I think that most Big-12 fans can agree that the Big-12 was very top heavy during Oklahoma's run - Nebraska was down as was Kansas State. Texas was very good and was really their only challenge.

LSU is ranked 3rd nationally in total defense behind Alabama which was ranked 2nd.

ASU finished ranked 114th.

LSU held Miami to 3 points in their 40-3 win over them in the bowl.

They were surprised they found themselves cheering for UT! lol They got a little swept up in the moment I guess.

I kept trying to tell them a UT win was good for our conference. Maybe that finally sunk in?? ; )

"Exactly, Oklahoma played in a relatively weak Big-12 while LSU played in an SEC that was very strong." Or LSU was just a fluke, which is what the polls indicated. Either way, Oklahoma is the one "constant", while USC and LSU are the variables. USC fared better against the constant.

Regardless, my favorite team has won two national championships in a row, 3 out of the last 4 Heismans and my husband wasn't killed in a mine shaft. I try to keep things in perspective. I'm a lucky woman!

LSU held Miami to 3 points in their 40-3 win over them in the bowl.

Alabama also held Texas Tech which had the #4 scoring offense, #1 passing offense and #2 yardage offense to 10 points.

I was referring to the game they played in Sept. Let's see:

gave up 31 points and 560 yards on offense (including 461 yards passing) against a middle of the pack PAC 10 school

One out of 3 national championships. It goes, LSU, USC, Texas.

After the establishment of the BCS, the AP was just a component of the BCS and not considered the true college championship. If the situation were reversed and LSU had won the AP and USC the BCS, no one outside of Louisiana would have considered LSU the champs.

Before the Pac-10 and the Rose Bowl joined the BCS, the AP bowl meant something. It doesn't anymore.

so does this mean that Texas isn't accepting the AP trophy?

I think the AP mailed it to them, rather than presenting it.

And I haven't seen a single sports column or commentary not refer to USC as back to back national champion. Interesting that the AP and Coaches' Poll didn't see fit to bestow a share of the championship to Auburn.

They're take every trophy they're given. They would take the Sagarin national championship trophy too if they were offered.

The crytal BCS football is what everyone plays for now.

Nope - only USC fanboys and the sports media (actually one and the same) consider USC to be back to back champions.

When the PAC-10 and the Rose Bowl joined the BCS they agreed to the system. There are tons of championship polls out there - the only one that really counts however is the BCS.

Excellent point, Bookman! Didn't LSU barely beat the lowly PAC 10 ASU team by a mere three points? The same team USC pounded 45-7?

Oh "only" the sports media and lets not forget the COACHES! Face it, everyone was referring to them as back to back champions except for LSU who was clinging to thier fluke season.

LOL - the coaches didn't vote them #1, they voted LSU #1.

Hey, I was just happy that an SEC team played a regular season non-conference game on the road :o).

Correction that was their score in 2004, in 2005 it was 38-28.

The coaches were OBLIGATED to vote with the BCS result. Even at that some broke ranks and voted for SC.

Sad, but true. The last time UF played a non-conf game out of state was Syracuse back in '92. They killed us, guess that's why we haven't done it since.
