Regardless, my favorite team has won two national championships in a row

One out of 3 national championships. It goes, LSU, USC, Texas.

After the establishment of the BCS, the AP was just a component of the BCS and not considered the true college championship. If the situation were reversed and LSU had won the AP and USC the BCS, no one outside of Louisiana would have considered LSU the champs.

Before the Pac-10 and the Rose Bowl joined the BCS, the AP bowl meant something. It doesn't anymore.

so does this mean that Texas isn't accepting the AP trophy?

And I haven't seen a single sports column or commentary not refer to USC as back to back national champion. Interesting that the AP and Coaches' Poll didn't see fit to bestow a share of the championship to Auburn.
