He'd still have won. If it weren't for that rotten call on the VY pitch where his knee was clearly down (should have been reviewed) no one would be talking VY today!

USC was robbed.

I agree it was heartbreaking but USC wasn't robbed --- they gave away the store. Carroll should have called for the TO. But after all he has done to build up that team, I don't fault him too much. Stuff happens.

Well...the whole season is just that -the whole season.
The vote should be AFTER all the games are played--
who would you select?

Yeah I think so.

If you ask me, I wonder if USC had underestimated the Texas defense. Maybe just a bit.

Get yer facts straight. SC played MICHIGAN in the 2004 bowl. LSU played Oklahoma that year. It was the following year that SC played Oklahoma.

I'm late to this discussion, but I agree with you. Young is not an NFL-type QB. If he converts to RB, I might change my opinion.

How can you "misunderestimate" the defense ranked #1 in the country? Again, no disrespect to the Longhorns defense, but USC handed them plays.

I watched the game off and on simply to see what the Reggie Bush thing is all about. What a disappointment. I asked my son why RB wasn't running the ball and he said because the defense is too fast. Well Hell's bells, what is he going to find in the NFL?

I think they did.

Honestly, I think the UT defense underestimated the USC defense a bit too.

Things were very interesting on that side of the game :)

It was interesting to watch Young just step out of tackles.

There's breaking tackles, and then there is just simply stepping out of them.

Of course the TD should have been called back - and therefore the missed extra point would have been gone too. The way Texas was raming the ball down USC's throat at the time, they would surely have scored on the next few plays and probably would have nailed the extra point. So, very likely the bum call gave USC a one point advantage.

Also take away USC's field goal at the very end of the half. Even if USC had held Texas to a field goal rather than a touchdown that wipes out the missed extra point and also the time needed for USC to get a FG at the end of the game - a 4 point swing.

If the refs had made the correct call, Texas most likely would have scored a TD anyway and not rushed the extra point, USC most likely would not have had time for a last second FG so USC gained 4 pts with the call.

The most likely scenarios either give Texas another 4 points or makes it a wash.

Sorry, but both those teams were knocking snot bubbles out of each other. That was an incredibly hard-hitting, well-played game.

If you think one team handed it to the other, try threading a needle while standing on an interstate highway with people dropping bowling balls off an overpass at you. Texas earned their victory, and USC played a great game.

Even with the turnovers by SC, they still would have won had it not been for the "phantom TD". That's life, I guess.

Why do you think that Texas would have gotten zero points on that drive? If the correct call had been made, Texas would have still been first and goal and Texas was moving the ball at will on that drive.

I'm not into sports, and I don't know what was said after the Heisman award, BUT, millions were watching THIS bowl and what he said came off as SOUR GRAPES! Sorry, I say it like it is! Many watched this game than the Heisman award presentation, so the QB should have known better! That's my opinion, not being a sports fanatic and all...

:)

I don't assume they would have gotten zero points. I assume they would have gotten 3 at best. (No telling if they would have even gotten that, given he just missed the extra point.) The previous drive, SC stopped them and they had to settle for a FG. Of course, we'll never know. And that was just one of many ways in which SC blew it.

Texas had cramping problems throughout the game. Possibly, I'm guessing, flu or cold related, possibly also the heat of the night game. Colder at night in Texas, and their bodies diurnal cycle had acclimated to the Texas daily temparature cycle.

The problem is that Reggie Bush isn't really a true running back -- he's a tremendous athlete who is more of a multi-purpose runner, receiver, returner, etc.

LenDale White, on the other hand, IS a true running back . . . which is why he's the one who finished the game with 120+ rushing yards and three TDs.

I'd agree with you except the officials stopped the clock and made reviews of NON TOUCHDOWN plays on their own accord at different times in the game without any of the teams having to have called a timeout.

They were robbed. Texas won by 3 instead of lost by 3 as they should have.

Vince played incredibly. But they lost that game if the officials had not handed it to them.

There are plenty of "ifs", but it is clear to me that USC handed them the game.

You can say that about any game played at any time in history. Against Notre Dame, did Notre Dame "give it to them" when they allowed a 4th and 17 conversion at the end of the game by allowing the reciever behind the coverage or did USC "do what it took to win"?

If a team drives the ball at will and then repeatedly turns it over in the red zone then maybe you would have a case for "giving it to them". That is not the case here.
