Israel denies Temple Mount excavation

The Israel Antiquities Authority denied on Tuesday accusations that archeological excavations were currently underway below the Temple Mount and that a synagogue had opened at the site.
Israel Antiquities Authority Jerusalem District Archaeologist Yuval Baruch said that all of the gates to the Temple Mount compound had been blocked by massive construction in historical times.
"The only gates open today are the official ones - they are open to Muslim worshippers and visitors - and they are under the control of security officials and Waqf representatives," Baruch stated.
Sheikh Ra'ad Salah, leader of the Islamic Movement's northern faction, had said at a press conference earlier Tuesday that al-Aksa Mosque was in danger, and declared that if archeological excavations in the vicinity of the Western Wall tunnels were to continue, Israel "would find itself at war with the entire Muslim world."
He said that Israel was building a synagogue and a large model of the Second Temple at the excavation site, which is 97 meters away from the Dome of the Rock.
At the press conference, Salah screened a video that supposedly showed Jews praying at the illicit synagogue.

It sounds to me like he is trying to provoke such a war using the same lie ("al-Aqsa is in danger") that Haj Amin al-Husseini used to spark the conflict between the Jews and Arabs of Palestine 85 years ago. It worked then...

It is to Israel's eternal shame that the Temple Mount is in the hands of the filthy Muslim Wakf, who have been destroying all underground evidence of the Temple for decades. In June 1967 both mosques should have been torn down, and the artifical presence of Islam in Jersualem removed completely. What the hell is wrong with Israelis?
OK, someone explain to me how Iran is going to nuke Israel without damaging this site sacred to Islam? As I see it, Israel is about the size of my metro area (Kansas City) and Iran is only about 1000 miles away. That's sort of like if our town bombed Chicago and hoped that the wind would blow away all the radiation into Detroit.

Israel has NEVER been at war with the entire Muslim world. Israel enjoys good relations and a strategic alliance with Turkey. Israel enjoys good relations with Mauritania. We have peace agreements with Egypt and Jordan. I don't ever seem to remember hostilities between Israel and Indonesia, the largest Muslim nation on the planet.
Agreed. All western press releases should indicate that muslims took control of Mt Moriah, built a mosque atop it, and now forbid Christians and Jews from visiting this holy site except under muslim controlled, non muslim religion-censored conditions. And that Jewish authorities enforce the muslim hijacking of a Judeao-Christian holy site.
All for nothing. When the muslim tunneling, overbuilding and poor engineering design cause the al Aqsa mosque to collapse, it will be blamed on the jews.
My guess is the reason that Indonesia is not at war with Israel is they are out of range. Moslems are in a state of perpetual war with anybody in range, even other Moslems.
After all, most of the car bombs in Iraq are Muslims bombing other sects of Islam. Attacking Americans is just a sideline for them.
Then again, can you name an Islamic country that hasn't endorsed the idea that "Zionism = Racism?" It's good to be hopeful, but the Muslim world has many miles to go before we can take "peace in the Middle East" as close at hand.
