Arizona senator John McCain could win the 2008 presidential election in the United States, according to a poll by Zogby International. 52 per cent of respondents would vote for the Republican in a head-to-head contest against Democratic New York senator Hillary Rodham Clinton.
In 2000, McCain won seven GOP presidential primaries in the U.S., but retired from the race after eventual nominee George W. Bush became the frontrunner.
Rodham Clinton was elected to the U.S. Senate in 2000, defeating Republican Rick Lazio by 12 per cent. She ruled out a presidential bid in 2004. 37 per cent of respondents would vote for the Democrat, while 11 per cent would back other candidates or remain undecided.
Bush is ineligible for a third term in office. The next presidential election is scheduled for November 2008.

Others to consider are Governor Haley Barbour of Mississippi and Senator Sam Brownback of Kansas.
One thing which might hurt Haley is that for many years he has been a lobbyist in DC -- which is fine --except that there is a major lobbyist scandal (not involving Haley) about to break.
In otherwords, Vote McCain or go to DU.

McCain's base is the MSM. If you're comfortable with that, great, but I'm not.
Let us be perfectly clear. We've had a Clinton in office. Conservatives/republicans are not like Democrats that enter therapy when they lose an election. We'll survive Hillary, no matter how painful. The Conservative movement and place within the Republican Party will not survive McCain with him as the head. Nor on a gut level do I trust, respect or even think McCain is entirely sane. In short I think he's at LEAST as bad as Hillary and your attempts to bully him a vote isn't going to work.
McCain the nominee? I work against him and never cease from the objective to defeat him. Millions are like me and we will not be joining DU. Deal with it.
In other words.. press keeps eye on pulse of America and finds that while people might be uninformed enough to vote for McCain still, they are not yet stupid enough to vote for Hillary.. MSM watching with fingers crossed and breathe baited hoping stupidity prevails.
Another example of flawed polling. NONE of my friends or acquaintances would even vote Republican if McCain were running.
Ask them why since he's more pro-war than Bush in some ways.
He'd have to get the nomination first, which will prove very difficult for him.

The only way McCains going to win the primary is to run in the democratic primary.
No, what is happening here is that you are confusing a discussion on FR with RNC guidance. Just because most people here understand that the dynamics of a two-party system demands that you vote for whatever candidate your own party presents you with (like him or not) does not mean it works that way in the real world. The last two presidential elections have proven that the Conservative vote is critical to Republican candidates.

And Hillary has done what for the Christian Right? The argument is not McCain vs any other Republican. It is Hillary vs. McCain and in that case Hillary is the better choice for the Christian Right? Could you explain that.
