Arizona senator John McCain could win the 2008 presidential election in the United States, according to a poll by Zogby International. 52 per cent of respondents would vote for the Republican in a head-to-head contest against Democratic New York senator Hillary Rodham Clinton.

In 2000, McCain won seven GOP presidential primaries in the U.S., but retired from the race after eventual nominee George W. Bush became the frontrunner.

Rodham Clinton was elected to the U.S. Senate in 2000, defeating Republican Rick Lazio by 12 per cent. She ruled out a presidential bid in 2004. 37 per cent of respondents would vote for the Democrat, while 11 per cent would back other candidates or remain undecided.

Bush is ineligible for a third term in office. The next presidential election is scheduled for November 2008.

Many of us werevery disappointed over George Alen's Senate vote for the Warner Amendment on Iraq. However, he's still head and shoulders above McVain.

Others to consider are Governor Haley Barbour of Mississippi and Senator Sam Brownback of Kansas.

One thing which might hurt Haley is that for many years he has been a lobbyist in DC -- which is fine --except that there is a major lobbyist scandal (not involving Haley) about to break.

In otherwords, Vote McCain or go to DU.

Too bad you don't run the board huh?

McCain's base is the MSM. If you're comfortable with that, great, but I'm not.

Let us be perfectly clear. We've had a Clinton in office. Conservatives/republicans are not like Democrats that enter therapy when they lose an election. We'll survive Hillary, no matter how painful. The Conservative movement and place within the Republican Party will not survive McCain with him as the head. Nor on a gut level do I trust, respect or even think McCain is entirely sane. In short I think he's at LEAST as bad as Hillary and your attempts to bully him a vote isn't going to work.

McCain the nominee? I work against him and never cease from the objective to defeat him. Millions are like me and we will not be joining DU. Deal with it.

In other words.. press keeps eye on pulse of America and finds that while people might be uninformed enough to vote for McCain still, they are not yet stupid enough to vote for Hillary.. MSM watching with fingers crossed and breathe baited hoping stupidity prevails.

Another example of flawed polling. NONE of my friends or acquaintances would even vote Republican if McCain were running.

I know two hard core commies that love him. They were shocked to learn that I didn't.

Ask them why since he's more pro-war than Bush in some ways.

He'd have to get the nomination first, which will prove very difficult for him.

Many New York contributors to McCain's 2000 presidential campaign were reluctant to attend this year's event. The fact McCain will be 72 years old for the 2008 presidential campaign was cited to explain lack of enthusiasm, as was the senator's support for the Iraq war.

This is just saying that liberals are abandoning him, which is what I said. I've seen stories (which I'm efforting to find) of his easy success in raising money.

...

Santorum is also in the political fight of his life in his home state of Pennsylvania, trailing his Democratic opponent by 12 percentage points in a recent poll. So when he wanted a popular Republican to appear with him at private fund-raising events on Dec. 2, he turned to McCain.

...

In recent weeks McCain has traveled to Alabama, Connecticut, Illinois, South Carolina, Massachusetts, Michigan, Mississippi and other states, combining fundraising with promotional events for his new book, ``Character is Destiny.''

McCain has done fundraisers for a dozen Republican candidates around the country this year and sent contributions to more than a half-dozen others, said Eileen McMenamin, a spokeswoman. This pace -- and the demand -- probably will accelerate in the election year of 2006.

The senator has a ``very aggressive schedule'' of fundraisers planned, said John Weaver, a McCain political adviser, without providing figures. ``The matrix we're trying to work off of is now running several pages thick.''

...

McCain on Dec. 13 said he has revived his Straight Talk America PAC to help raise money for Republicans in 2006. ``We hope to have Senator McCain back in Pennsylvania next year,'' said Virginia Davis, spokeswoman for the Santorum campaign.

Look gang this is simple. If it comes down to McCain and Rodham...

You are right, it is simple...DO NOT let it come down to these two.

Anyone who hates McCain so much that self preservation isn't even in the equation, you may want to pass by Democratic Underground you might find some folks you agree with there.

This comment speaks volumes. If we don't agree with you regarding the insane one, we should be sent to DU? How about you spending as much energy finding another to run, as you are exerting in threatening a hitlery presidency if we do not acquiesce.

Ask them why since he's more pro-war than Bush in some ways.

It is because he appears to be more liberal than hitlery, whom they dislike intensely. They will overlook his pro-war stance, much like many on the "ohter side of the isle" are willing to overlook his liberal insane anti-American side.

The only way McCains going to win the primary is to run in the democratic primary.

Senate and Pres are 2 different things. Hillary would have to change her image to even consider be on the ticket. By doing that she would look like a fake, and a turncoat to the left.

No, what is happening here is that you are confusing a discussion on FR with RNC guidance. Just because most people here understand that the dynamics of a two-party system demands that you vote for whatever candidate your own party presents you with (like him or not) does not mean it works that way in the real world. The last two presidential elections have proven that the Conservative vote is critical to Republican candidates.

JAB, since you PINGED me to this thread, you get to play, too.

Carl Limbacher first gained notoriety as a reporter with the Washington Weekly and has built a reputation as one of the hottest sources for alternative news on the Internet and as a frequent guest on radio and TV talk shows throughout America. A regular source for talk radio hosts from coast to coast, Inside Cover writer and editor Carl Limbacher specializes in the news the mainstream media overlooks.

NewsMax journalists Christopher Ruddy and Carl Limbacher have a blockbuster new book published on September 11, 2002. It’s called Catastrophe: Clinton’s Role in America’s Worst Disaster - and tells the real story of 9/11 - the one the big media are afraid to report.

From last year's election coverage to the recent hostage standoff with China, Limbacher helped keep NewsMax.com on the cutting edge of breaking developments -- so much so that Fox News Channel, CNN and MSNBC all invited him to be a guest on their news programs to get his take on the China crisis.

Limbacher's stories have been picked up by conservative media stars Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity -- and his scoops are regularly covered by the New York Post's Page Six and even the Washington Times editorial page.

He was a regular guest on Mary Matalin's Washington, D.C. radio show before she became special advisor to President Bush and Vice President Cheney.

He was a recent guest on Bill Maher's Politically Incorrect.

In 1998, he was first with news that Congressional Black Caucus chairwoman Maxine Waters wanted an investigation into Ron Brown's death - and the first in print with complaints from Brown's daughter about a government cover-up. Months later, Limbacher went public with the behind the scenes story on the jailhouse death of key Whitewater witness James McDougal - including claims from witnesses who say prison officials denied him his heart medication hours before he died of a heart attack.

And no one knows more than Limbacher about Bill and Hillary Clinton's dark past -- and future plans to undermine the Bush administration and reclaim the White House.

In 1999, Limbacher got the inside scoop on NBC's embargoed interview with Clinton accuser Juanita Broaddrick - direct from Broaddrick herself. More than three weeks before NBC ran her bombshell story.

During the 2000 presidential race, Limbacher snagged an interview with Vice President Al Gore's Vietnam buddy H. Alan Leo - and was the first to actually print a detailed account of Leo's claims that Army brass assigned him to be Gore's battlefield bodyguard.

And although the mainstream press refused to credit NewsMax, it was Limbacher's Inside Cover report "Racial Changes Made to Ground Zero Tribute" that set off a nationwide firestorm of protest over plans for a politically correct statue based on the famous photo, "Flag Raising at Ground Zero."

With breaking updates several times a day, Limbacher has made Inside Cover a must read for media savvy folks everywhere.

"Read all about it - NewsMax.com! We check out the site every morning 'cause you always have the stuff a day early," says Fox News Channel's top rated "Fox & Friends" morning show host Steve Doucy about Limbacher's reports.

Fox News Channel's Sean Hannity says Carl Limbacher is one of "best reporters in America -- I read him everyday."

Actually, Newsmax seems to have cleaned up their act somewhat recently. You may or may not be aware of the fact that they used to run advertisements in the form of regular news articles. There are plenty of othermore credible sources on the net.

I was EXTREMELY disappointed with his vote on the Defense Appropriations Bill, with McClowns amendment attached, but the rationale was, it was a defense authorization bill, it funded the military, and it was assumed the House would figure out a way to get around it.
I sure will be glad when we regain control of the HOuse AND Senate.

Yea, Coast to Coast AM is always my second choice.

I've seen them all..been to every one of them at least once.
I was doing keyword searches with Veronica and Gopher, I have used Mosaic and Pipeline, and searched Compuserve with a 2400 BAUD modem at $5.50 an hour.
IOW, I've been doing this a long time.
You have very little to offer in the way of advice.

I get the feeling McCrazy has you fooled, just like he did Barry Goldwater (does the name sound familiar?). I used to know both Barry Goldwater and McCrazy 20-25 years ago when I lived in AZ. When McCrazy first ran for John Rhodes seat he talked a good talk, but when he was elected his true colors came out.

I am not fooled by McCain. But I am not so "clever" as to see Hillary as the better choice as some seem to be suggesting on this forum. I do not at all like McCain's tactics or his alignment with MSM, but I can also look at voting records and histories and if anyone on this forum thinks that between Hillary and McCain that Hillary is the better default choice, then I feel sorry for you. You pretty much get what you deserve.

And Hillary has done what for the Christian Right? The argument is not McCain vs any other Republican. It is Hillary vs. McCain and in that case Hillary is the better choice for the Christian Right? Could you explain that.
