Breaking on CNN live right now.
No, no, no! Don't be exporting that fire across the state line. Just kidding. Sounds like the Hobbs area has been slammed big time. There was the smell of smoke in the air here this morning. Our weather people say it's from fires in the San Angelo area.
For North Texans --

More news on North TX fires:
Ringgold - destroyed
Nocona - the fire zagged!
Eastland County - still burning
Kokomo - destroyed
Carbon, Gorman, Desdemona - all evacuated - Eastland Co
TX Panhandle - 6700 acres in Donley Co near 70 homes
Mineral Wells - 6 homes burned; 1800 acres in Parker Co
Benbrook - Tarrant Co - 2 fires, now controlled, on vacant property
White Settlement - apartments and homes had been threatened, but no danger now, as all fire fuel has burned already
Cross Plains - Callahan Co - fires still burning in and around the town that had two deaths and lost dozens of homes earlier in the week
Slammed pretty good here. Two of our employees had family or themself were evacuated. One had not been allowed to go back into the neighborhood as of noon, but understood her house and mothers survived, but neighbors didn't.
So sorry to hear that. Good news is that it wasn't worse. Don't anyone let their guard down, tomorrow is supposed to be another high-risk fire weather day like yesterday.
Everything is fine. My husband went to check out the location of the fire, and it was in very close proximity to his place of work (about 3-4 miles from our house). Fortunately, they got it under control quickly and it didn't spread very far. It was cooler today, but still windy; however, the winds have died down this evening.
We have no rain in the forecast. Tomorrow is considered a critical day for fire probability and Wednesday and Thursday extreme days.
All my prayers for our Ok & Tx Freepers. We had fire trucks driving around in my area yesterday trying to figure out where all the smoke was coming from and it was pretty scary for a bit. Our home has about an acre of un-irrigated land behind it and it is grown up pretty bad, so today we did a bit a brush clearing. It was hard work because it is steep and has a deep ravine in the middle of property. I bought a bunch of oscilating sprinklers and let it run most of the day. It is tense around here as this neighborhood also backs up to a nature area a few blocks away. Pray for rain. Glad you are ok PKM.
Thanks for the news.
Prayer still going out to those in the danger areas, and for all those who've lost their homes.

?? I wasn't sure what your post meant? Is that a name or did I post something wrong?
The name of one of the fruit stands outside of Bowie popped into my head just now--it was called Wagonseller's and they had signs all along the road and I think owned several of the produce markets along the highway, IIRC.
Sorry I didn't understand.
sorry to trouble you but iv been reading about the fires i have friends in shamrock OK and have not been able to contact them due to the fires does anyone know of a number i can call to find out where they maybe, im in the Uk and am praying so hard for e1 there
I'm sorry I am not familiar with Oklahoma. I will pray for your friends though. Good luck in getting in contact with them.
Are you sure it's Shamrock, OK, and not Shamrock, TX? That's in the TX Panhandle near OK. (On old Rte66, by the way.)
There shouldn't be any fires keeping the phones from working. Good luck! Maybe a 4-leaf clover?
How is your stuned beeber?
I think we all need to pray for rain and seed the clouds.
I live in north Texas and it has been dry as a bone for months.
Sure wish we could send you some of our rain. We are deluged with rain here in So. Cal. It was a wet and soggy Rose Parade here yesterday and we haven't been able to take our Christmas company to Disneyland or anything due to all the rain. Wish we could send it YOUR way to DOUSE all those fires! We had fires in 2002 here in Claremont, Ca. The fire photos from TX and Okla. look like our 2002 fires. And my college roommate lives down by San Diego. A couple of years ago they had bad fires in her neighborhood and a lot of the homes burned down. Her house was spared, but her husband refused to leave. If you heard of a crazy man there running around with a water hose, it was him. She said their yard looked like a lava flow. Living here in So. Cal. we have fires, floods, earthquakes, Santa Anna winds, and way too many liberals. We are cursed.
I have lived in San Diego (my husband grew up there and was stationed at Coronado until '97)--I remember waking up one morning, looking out the window, and seeing ash raining down on the cars outside (we lived in Imperial Beach and I think the fires were in the San Ysidro area)! As I was driving later that morning, I looked behind me and saw a huge dark cloud raining ash. And yes, those Santa Anas were quite something. I do miss the nice moderate weather there though!
Awesome! Hope the skunks went elsewhere! :)
We had about four inches of snow several weeks ago which melted right away. I think north Oklahoma County is drier then we are in Cleveland County as our rain was more then theirs this summer although now it is getting pretty dry.
When we get rain, it will probably flood -- that's how the dry times were broken in S. Texas when we lived there and what usually happens here.
Hope everything is ok for your area. So far Cleveland County where I live south of the OKC has not had any fires that I know. Looks like we are cooling off after today although temperatures haven't gone up this morning like they predicted (as yet). Still 52 and it is supposed to get in the 70's again with extreme fire danger. This is the last day for 70's for awhile. So far the winds have not picked up that much. They are at 11 gusting to 23 at our local airport about two miles away.
I MEANT to mark the thread with a ping. My reply was not to you personally.
Furthermore, I MEANT to write "NFPing" - a reference to the National Fire Plan (with which I am somewhat familiar).
Please forgive any confusion I may have caused you.
