Any OKC FReepers know if there are fires near the border of Del City and OKC? I've got a friend who lives off of 20th and Bryant, and I haven't been able to reach her for more than a day.
My father used to say that you had to respect the power but not be afraid. He applied that to fire. You understand. Thanks for the insight.
Most fire are burning east of OKC and south of Tulsa. Del City is mostly surrounded by urban areas so any fires that do pop up can be quickly put down by local fire departments. The problem they're having in more rural areas is a lack of roads where the firefighters can actually get ahead of a fire.
We had a strong cold front come through last night which has switched the winds around to where most of the fires are being blown back onto already burned areas. They may finally get the upper hand today.

They must have gotten it under control. I drove over close to there to see what I could see, and couldnt even see the flames anymore.
I'm praying for enough rain to solve the problem. Who can imagine...your own home just going up in smoke? Blessings to all the firefighters, from all the states that are helping...
Fires haven't even been near Tinker. They are well to the north. The location of the big fire last night was where I-44 goes south to Lawton off of I-35 north of OKC -- it was just east of there. Sooner Road runs way north of Tinker.
The fires were way north of Tinker -- nothing near where the office is located.

No problem -- think most people who have been on here for awhile know I am from Norman especially on the sports threads. I reference it when talking about Oklahoma as we live about 15 miles s. of OKC and Tinker AFB.
It's a good bit colder here in Tulsa this morning, although still windy. Maybe the cold helps, I don't know. If we don't get some moisture soon, everything is going to go up I'm afraid.

As far as I know there have been no fires in the Bryant area. These fires are hitting in more rural areas of Oklahoma County where there are a lot of the old "cedar" trees that got up like matches and brush has been allowed to grow. IOTW, the people built large homes with shake roofs back in these areas and kept the scenery which is like keeping a book of matches next to your home and actually on top of your home.
When we built in Texas, my son and I took down every cedar tree on the property (not realizing it was against the enviromental regs but we didn't get caught -- almost but they were a pile of ashes by the time anyone noticed. Didn't know you couldn't clear out cedar (actually junipers) until my neighbor came over laughing.
Firefighters are saying this morning in OKC that most of the fires have been started by cigarette butts -- I think after all the fires it is intentional now -- no one should be that dumb.
It is 48 degrees here this morning with 11 mph winds gusting to 23.
LOL -- sometimes it IS truly better to ask forgiveness than permission!!
I'm in the southern Waco suburbs, so not too far from you. Like you, I've heard fireworks over the last few days, and if I see one more idiot toss a cigarette out their car window, I will go ballistic on them. I noticed on last night's news that the Killeen FD put out a grass fire yesterday.
Hopefully Oklahoma will see some of our rain as this storm heads there in a few days. Sorry to hear about the fires there.
I talked to a couple of neighbors, and one of the guys on the neighborhood committee, and they said go ahead as long as I didn't build anything on the "green belt". So, chain saw, stump grinder, and John Deere, followed by bermuda grass seed, and I now have 250 feet to my north cleared. Left some oaks and three cedars, well separated from the rest, and feel much safer than before. Also the view is much better! Only down side is the skunks lost their habitat! LOL!
Ah, I found this news item about a big fire in Sapulpa, which might have been the source of the smoke all of y'all in Tulsa were noticing yesterday, instead of Bristow as I had speculated.
