It's high time we get serious about this... It is beyond the pale for this leaking to the MSM/dems and we have to be diligent in prosecuting these namby-pamby jealous prix. It's pure politics being waged to bring Bush down, and it is completely treasonist!!

I'm not exactly sure who's doing this, but there is no doubt they are enemies of America.

This could be laying the groundwork for whining about investigating and persecuting "whistleblowers."

I believe that the Justice Department/FBI should follow this wherever it leads. If George Bush leaked this info or ordered it leaked then he should be indicted and impeached. If Rockefeller, or some other Senator is the source then he should be indicted and forced from office.

This should be a "no quarter" action...

I think the leak came from either a disgruntled employee at NSA or someone within the NSA with a political agenda.

Also, I believe that if the are going to push this off on the white-house that they need to investigate the other WH administrations to see who they were spying on before there was a 9/11. We already know the Clintons were abusing their positions collecting FBI and IRS files on people they hated so lets go whole hog and see who comes out on top.

"reach high into the White House"
--This is too funny. It's like they're trying to re-gift 'Fritzmas' to their pathetic readership.

Every time I read a story like this from the LA Times I keep hearing Dusty Springfield in the background:

"Wishin and Hopin

and Singin and Prayin..."

A good start would be to jail the two NYT reporters if they don't give up their sources.

I guess the MSM media is hoping the leak probe will somehow get Bush impeached by showing he did somthing illegal with repect to the wiretaps.

The best part about all of this (and there isn't a best part when security is compromised) is that my Liberal friends are seeing right through the MSM spin machine now. Bush needs to stay on the offensive throughout the year.

Since there's no doubt that the leaker(s) will be identified, I wonder if they'll step forward themselves...with the whistleblower defense. Sort of a pre-emptive strike?

The New York Times reported Dec. 16 that beginning shortly after the Sept. 11 attacks, Bush authorized the National Security Agency to intercept and monitor international telephone calls and e-mails of people in the U.S.

By law, the NSA is largely prohibited from conducting such domestic surveillance, and it is supposed to get permission in each specific case from a secret tribunal of federal judges formed under the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act.

Were they international or domestic? Or are they both? And does it make a difference? Inquiring minds want to know.

Was digging for construction of the term "communication intelligence" and came across the Senate hearings from 1975. The current NSA issue resembles the SHAMROCK telecommunications interception program which operated from the 1940's until the 1970's.
