The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
Probably didn't even have to check for a pulse...

I worked in a sawmill and I worked with a woodchipper that probably made this one look like a baby. It was one frightening critter.

I was just walking by tree trimmers at a local residence using a wood chipper the other day, and noticed how powerful the machine is to chop up thick braches. I imagine the man stuck his arm too far down into the machine when he was stuffing cut branches and it pulled him in.

Loose long clothing is the enemy when working with equipment. Had a father in law that got his coat caught in a corn bine (sp)? Luckily he was able to slip his coat before it pulled him in.

I used to work for a company that sold a line of chippers, some are very large and very powerful.

There is a safety bar designed to stop the chipper's cutter drum when contacted by the lower body of the operator; it actuates a caliper brake on a large disk and will upset the chipper itself if not attached to the truck used to tow it.
OSHA will be all over this one.

I've worked with a number of industrial chippers. Some have kill switches to prevent (or make less likely) this type of accident. Those that don't can be quite dangerous if one is not careful. A branch can pin a hand or an article of clothing to the side of the chipper and drag someone right in.
There's an attorney somewhere who will make a bundle off of this.

Rich's Undeniable Truth of the Day:
When the chipper wants the branch, it's a good idea to let go and let it have the branch.
