HOUSTON The wife of the pastor of the nation's largest church was asked to leave a plane after she failed to comply with a flight attendant's instructions, the FBI said Tuesday.
Houston Lakewood Church pastor Joel Osteen, his wife, Victoria, and their two children boarded a Continental Airlines flight from Houston to Vail, Colo., Monday. The plane's door had been closed when Victoria Osteen and a flight attendant had a disagreement.
"She failed to comply with the flight attendant's instructions, and they were asked to leave the flight," FBI spokeswoman Luz Garcia said without elaborating on the disagreement.
The FBI reviewed a report from Continental after the incident, Garcia said. No charges will be filed, she said.
The flight was delayed more than an hour while the Osteens' luggage was retrieved, Garcia said. The family took another flight to Colorado, where church spokesman Don Iloff said they were skiing Tuesday.
Iloff called the disagreement with the flight attendant "minor" but would not say what happened.
"In semantics, they might have been asked to be removed," he said. "Really, it was more of a mutual thing."
Continental spokeswoman Julie King would not discuss the disagreement but said in a statement that the situation was resolved.
Osteen's sermons are broadcast across the country and his book "Your Best Life Now" has become a best seller. His church has more than 30,000 worshippers weekly and meets in a renovated arena where the Houston Rockets once played.
If that's true, I would think that she would have been given another seat or at least a towel or blanket put on the seat. I would hope that she makes a full confession and apology to the church for embarassing the church. That probably would be done BEFORE the part that is telecast.
Exactly, in fact he did not take his 2005 salary because of how well his book sales and speaking engagements have gone. This link has a good article about him.

"Google around on him. Amoung other things, he lives in a multi-million dollar house. He also doesn't teach that the only way to heaven is through jesus. He also doesn't seem to beleive in sin. He is just a motivational speaker masquerading as a pastor."
You hit the nail on the head. He constantly spouts this arminian "motivational" crap. "God wants you to be rich, healthy, and good lookin'" Anyone who profits financially from the gospel of Jesus Christ is just pitiful. Also, anyone who uses the word "wants" with respect to God does not have a clue.
Now we know why church is closed on Christmas!
Who cares?
It doesn't matter what your beef is with an airline crew. They have an absolute legal right to demand you take your seat, fasten your seat belt and obey other of their instructions. Your legal option is limited to removing yourself from a plane still on the ground and at the gate. Any other of your "demands" are a guarantee of trouble and probable arrest because they violate federal air regulations.
In the commercial air travel world after 9/11/01, you follow instructions on an airliner or you are in big trouble and risk arrest. Further, if physical threats take place while airborne, understandably nervous, fellow passengers may take it upon themselves to physically restrain you.
My advice to this woman is: If you are dissatisfied with commercial airline service, drive your own personal vehicle to Vail for a Christmas ski vacation. You could also consider chartering your own private jet to fly to Vail. I understand her family probably has the resources to pay for a chartered jet.
Even a Greyhound bus driver can throw out a disageeable passenger in the event of a confrontation.
Of course! Your understanding of delegated authority is positively Blackstonian. Federal law also gives far too much power to Napoleonic junior officers and sailors aboard U.S. Navy ships, usurping authority that should only be wielded by the Captain.
I find it funny, however for people to condemn him for flying 1st class when I'm surprised he doesn't have his own Gulfstream. Maybe that's what all this is building up to. Next Sunday he may take a love offering for his own plane.
If this is the real story, and it sounds believable, then Continental Airlines has an apology to issue to the Osteens. And they need to discipline the flight attendent. No one should be forced to sit on a wet sticky seat, anywhere on an airline, but especially in first class, where you paid good money to fly there. Sounds to me like the attendent has an attitiude problem.
Does that include sitting in a seat that has crap on it? Sorry, I do not buy into your absolute.
Somewhat graceless of her, however. Had it been I, I would have gone to the john and gotten some paper towels and mopped it up myself. saying absolutely nothing further to the stew about it. Then when arrived, I would have penned a pointed complaint to the airline.
"He isn't a preacher. His father left the family business to him. When dad died, there was no search committee and no chance to hear other preachers."
After listening to him a couple of times, you confirm my feeling about him.
Still, what about the older members of the church that followed his dad?
What's the source for the story?
This is the story that was on the local Houston TV news.
Larry King: "Because we've had ministers on who said, your record don't count. You either believe in Christ or you don't. If you believe in Christ, you are, you are going to heaven. And if you don't no matter what you've done in your life, you ain't."
Joel Osteen: "Yeah, I don't know. There's probably a balance between. I believe you have to know Christ. But I think that if you know Christ, if you're a believer in God, you're going to have some good works. I think it's a cop-out to say I'm a Christian but I don't ever do anything..."
Larry King: "What if you're Jewish or Muslim, you don't accept Christ at all?"
Joel Osteen: "You know, I'm very careful about saying who would and wouldn't go to heaven. I don't know..."
Larry King: "If you believe you have to believe in Christ? They're wrong, aren't they?"
Joel Osteen: "Well, I don't know if I believe they're wrong. I believe here's what the Bible teaches and from the Christian faith this is what I believe. But I just think that only God with judge a person's heart. I spent a lot of time in India with my father. I don't know all about their religion. But I know they love God. And I don't know. I've seen their sincerity. So I don't know. I know for me, and what the Bible teaches, I want to have a relationship with Jesus."

Note: Joel Osteen has just denied his calling as a pastor and a minister of Christ. A man that cannot bring himself to say that Jesus is the only way to heaven should resign from the ministry (John 14:6; 1 Timothy 2:5; Acts 4:12).
Larry King: "But don't you think if people don't believe as you believe, they're somehow condemned?"
Joel Osteen: "You know, I think that happens in our society. But I try not to do that. I tell people all the time, preached a couple Sundays about it. I'm for everybody. You may not agree with me, but to me it's not my job to try to straighten everybody out. The Gospel called the good news. My message is a message of hope, that's God's for you. You can live a good life no matter what's happened to you. And so I don't know. I know there is condemnation but I don't feel that's my place."
Larry King: "How about issues that the church has feelings about? Abortion? Same-sex marriages?"
Joel Osteen: "Yeah. You know what, Larry? I don't go there. I just ..."
Larry King: "You have thoughts, though."
Joel Osteen: "I have thoughts. I just, you know, I don't think that a same-sex marriage is the way God intended it to be. I don't think abortion is the best. I think there are other, you know, a better way to live your life. But I'm not going to condemn those people. I tell them all the time our church is open for everybody."

I give him credit for not having a Gulfstream lol. Creflow Dollar here in Atlanta drives a Bentley, has two jets (including a Gulfstream) and wheres thousand dollar suits. I heard he sent his wife shopping to Paris one time. When they go out of town, they alos stay at $1000 + a night hotels.
Why do these people give so much money to these people?
They serve kool-aid at communion?
What is WITH that PINK WIG and GARISH clown make-up?
Doesn't she know how ridiculous she looks!
Ever hear Neal Boortz talk about her?
It is hilarious!
How can people get caught up in worshiping people like this? (and MANY of them DO worship the messenger, not Christ).
