OK, new thread for the next week.
First, a big shout out to the SETI members who have added CPUs to the effort. Remember, its Team 36120, NOT Team 0.
Next, congrats to all for bumping our team up to 65 processors. ArgentCent is the latest to have joined our happy band of folders and jumps in at # 36 with his first completed WU. We now have 51 members in the team, and about 45 active participants.
Malsua, uriah and Ken in Texas are solidly in the top 10. One of these will probably be the new Numero Uno in a couple of weeks, barring newcomers borging dozens of unsuspecting systems (not that there's anything wrong with that!)
On the global front, Free Republic Folders is now listed at # 1448. We are poised to overtake (today) Kami Sacred Folding Team, buzzez, Naptune, PCSilencieux and Team Razorsh*g.
The only competition coming up on us is still QHT HPC. They are out producing us by about 1,000 points per day. As we gain members from the 100,000 FReepers that visit JimRob's place I expect that we will prevail and keep our lead.
I'm not running any others though, if that's what you meant.
Thank you very much. We still need additional CPUs over the holidays to keep moving up the charts to Top 1000, and to fend off a school district (I presume - SISD) that has added F@H to their systems.
And for those that were wondering, yes you CAN run BOINC-SETI and F@H on the same system. Just be sure to set the priority for F@H above lowest priority. F@H is such a well behaved client that it won't take CPU cycles even from screensavers.
We are now up to # 1,236 with 164,000 points and 1,318 work units.
Merry Christmas!
Install the software in the "normal" manner, that is, don't run in screensaver mode. It just runs in the background, using the CPU when nothing else is running.
I set my screensaver in Windows to be a blank screen... running pretty pictures takes CPU cycles away from F@H. My normal power save options are set to turn the monitor off after 1 hour or so.
I have 4 machines running this way at the house... no problems whatsoever with degradation or anything like that.
Thanks for joining the cause!!!
Yes, I've thought of doing that. (running it simply in the background).
I was mainly asking to make sure that the data being generated wasn't corrupt. That's my primary concern. Secondly, it was annoying that it wasn't simply kicking into the full display, unless I made sure to show the display first after closing out all other programs running.
I hadn't thought of the fact that the display itself could take some computing power away from the program. This seems like a good enough reason to switch to no screensaver.
Thanks,
Don't know what to say about this without knowing your machine and what type of graphics card you have.
Most of my machines that have no problem showing the display; another one with an older graphics card is quite, sell we say, "flaky".
From what I've seen of the client's behavior so far, I doubt there's an issue with corruption. It actually seems to run quite well and in a well-behaved manner.

I would like to change my user name...is this possible?
stupid question...I just right clicked on the icon and clicked on "configure" and changed my username.
bump to spread the word
Thanks for the info.
Please download the client and get started. Our team number is 36120. Most people use their FReeper screen name for their folding name.
The current thread is here. We will gladly help you get started through any config issues you may have.
