The President gave a live address in which he said that he authorized the NSA to intercept communications between suspected terrorists in the U.S. and their Al Qaeda contacts overseas, after 9/11/01. He did not equivocate, saying he ensured the authorization he gave was reviewed by the Justice Department and senior members of Congress. Russ Feingold immediately followed on CNN claiming that the President, in his efforts to stop terrorists, was breaking the law. "No one is above the law," says Russ Feingold, who is obviously trying to lay the case for impeachment.

FoxNews.com is carrying the following BREAKING NEWS headline: "President Bush Acknowledges Authorizing NSA Eavesdropping"

Oh dang it. I missed it.

He's really mad? Good. He should be mad at Congress. Bunch of wimps.

NSA, through Echelon, has spied on Americans for years and years so I really don't get the big deal that Congress had with the Patriot Act.

FNC is replaying it.

Unauthorized disclosure of this effort puts our citizens at risk.

He'll add something about this to his Sunday night address, I'll bet.

Good. I see no benefit in allowing the anti-American cabal to steer the current political discussions away from the successful Iraqi election that has just been conducted towards more of the relentless thrust to denigrate President Bush in any way possible regardless of the ramifications.

My question is will he follow through? Find the leaker AND punish him? If he doesn't get out in front on this, the Democrats (with the help of the pathetic RINOs) are going to try to do him in with this.

No TV here. More detail, please.

Who said he was mad? How was his anger expressed?

the press leaks and any such security leaks are illegal and are aiding and abetting the enemy.

I'll not hold my breath while I wait for the prosecutions.

The press has been mischaracterizing the authorization for the NSA to monitor international phone calls. In fact, the laws about intelligence gathering are quite different when it involves international communications. The way the press is covering it makes it sound as if they think it is covered by the laws about domestic intel gathering which are are different. I'm sure that they're doing this on purpose to hurt George Bush as much as they possibly can whether it helps the enemy or not.

And what is being missed here, but apparently not by Pres. Bush, is that someone AGAIN has leaked key information that aids and abets our enemies. I can't wait until they find the Democrat operative(s) who did this and leaked other information (CIA holding facilities, etc) so that we can try them and hang them for treason.

WASHINGTON — President Bush said Saturday he personally has authorized a secret eavesdropping program in the U.S. more than 30 times since the Sept. 11 attacks and he lashed out at those involved in publicly revealing the program.

"This is a highly classified program that is crucial to our national security," he said in a radio address delivered live from the White House's Roosevelt Room.

"This authorization is a vital tool in our war against the terrorists. It is critical to saving American lives. The American people expect me to do everything in my power, under our laws and Constitution, to protect them and their civil liberties and that is exactly what I will continue to do as long as I am president of the United States," Bush said.
