INDIANAPOLIS -- Investigators have confiscated more than 200 guns -- a collection valued at more than $1 million -- from a home owned by a man who is prohibited from owning such weapons, the Marion County Sheriff's Department said.
Authorities said firefighters found the guns at an uninhabited home owned by Albert A. Hall, 68, after the house caught fire Saturday. Police said Hall accidentally started the fire when he placed hot ashes in a cardboard box at the house, located in the 8800 block of Southeastern Avenue.
Police said Hall cannot own guns because he is a felon. Hall pleaded guilty 10 years ago to molesting two relatives over several years.
By Monday, Hall, who lives at a separate home in Indianapolis' Wannamaker area, had not been arrested or charged in connection with the gun seizure. However, authorities said state or federal firearm possession charges are probable.
"We're just glad that we have these guns off the streets and out of the hands of someone who should not have them," Marion County sheriff's Capt. Phil Burton said Monday.
Authorities said these weapons were among more than 200 guns seized from a home owned by Albert A. Hall of Indianapolis. Police said Hall, a felon, cannot possess guns.
The weapons include military rifles from World War I and World War II, handguns and two machine guns, the sheriff's department said.
Burton said Hall was "very negligent in how he kept the guns."
"He kept them in a house that was unsecured with no alarm. The doors (were) not locked," Burton said. "No one is living or residing at this residence, even though he owns the residence.
"Anyone could have waltzed in there at any time."
"Authorities Seize More Than 200 Guns From Felon"
That is a lot of cold dead hands... what a freak of nature.
That's unconstitutional..........
......
I don't think so.
For two hundred guns to be worth $1,000,000 that averages out them being worth $5,000 each. A bit high if they've been kept in poor conditions.
But, they weren't ON the streets.
Now they know how many guns it takes to fill the Albert A. Hall.
They were never "on the street" to begin with, dip$hit. So that's the new standard? Guess I gotta get an alarm system now!
Looks to be a nice auction. However, I always highly question the dollar amount the police give as they habitually inflate the cost to make themselves seem more important. The guns would have to have an AVERAGE vlue of $5000 for the collection to be worth $1 million.
I know something o the value of WWI and WWII era firearms and there are very few non-machine guns that would go for more than $3500 and that example would have to be in extremely good condition or have something very special about it. Something like a pair of unissued USGI M1911's in sequential serial numbers would probably fetch $7000-$10,000 but your run of the mill Nazi K98 Mauser would only bring a couple of hundred dollars.
I totally ageee with you, but the guy is a child molester so I just can't seem to work up a tear for him if I get a good deal at the auction.
Since when does the government pay any attention to the Constitution?
Ouch !
Conservatives revere the Constitution, Liberals revile it.........
Free Enterprise is good. Don't over-bid............
Fun and additional bonus's for committing a felony. Your rights that are protected by the constitution no longer protect you.
No right to vote
No right to bear arms
There are ways around that. I hear Mrs. Liddy is very well armed.
This guy didn't have that option, apparently. Mrs. Liddy wouldn't marry him.......
