WASHINGTON, Dec 8 (Reuters) - Leaders of the pilots union at bankrupt Delta Air Lines (DALRQ.OB: Quote, Profile, Research) voted on Thursday to seek a strike authorization vote from members, the labor group said.
The timing of a vote had not been determined, according to the Delta unit of the Air Line Pilots Association, which is fighting a company bid to throw out its contract to save money as it restructures in bankruptcy.
another american business bites the dust thanks to the parasitic unions.
I always thought pilots were a pretty intelligent bunch. Why would they vote for a strike when their employer is in bankruptcy?
I suppose they all have another flying job lined up.
Mark my words..they won't go through with this!
Yeah, mgt had nothing to do with this. /sarcasm/
Pilots are second only to doctors in not knowing economics.
Dang, I still have zillions of unused FF miles with Delta.
these guys ought to work for the post office. The logic is the same...business in trouble, let's raise prices (USPS). Business is bankrupt, let's demand more financial incentives.
Well, I agree that the Unions look like they'll finish the job, but they had a lot of help from mis-Management.
The big problem with Delta's pilots is that while the older guys already have considerable dough saved up and have nothing to lose (even if their pensions are tossed onto the PGC), the younger guys will get screwed. They will have to start all over again as junior 737 pilots at SW, IF they are lucky.
This is ultimately a generational move. The older pilots feel that they have been squeezed too much and that the airline will be liquidated or consolidated anyway.
Delta's main problem is that of the industry in general: too much capacity and a high cost structure. I still believe that Delta should merge with NW, although the latter has the most MILITANT unions in the biz. With Delta's European routes and NW's Asia routes, and hubs in Minneapolis, SLC, Atlanta, and Detroit (Memphis and Cinci would go bye-bye in such a merger), it would be well positioned to take on American and Continental.
Gee, generalize, why don't ya?

Thanks! I know it was true a few years ago. I do know (as I had them for a client until recently) that the AVERAGE salary for a UPS pilot is $176,000, no matter what any online estimate says.
Hey, Saganite, are you a flyboy? What do you qualify for 747s? 757S? 737s? Did you go to Embry Riddle?
Intelligent or Egotistical?
Obviously you're not a Delta Pilot. After all the posturing, they will do what their union tells them to.
use 'em quick
very true
