Al Qaeda Killed Kenny! Carting Cartman off to war (fighting terrorism through South Park)
National Review Online ^ | November 29, 2005 | R. James, Suzanne, Robert, Daniel, and Benjamin Woolsey

Posted on 11/29/2005 5:06:00 PM PST by EveningStar

In their insightful and offbeat Freakonomics Steven Levitt and Stephen Dubner tell the remarkable story of Stetson Kennedy’s important role in preventing a substantial national revival of the Ku Klux Klan following World War II. Kennedy first infiltrated the Klan on his own and learned its secret structure, terminology, and passwords and then, in a stroke of genius, provided these to . . . The Adventures of Superman radio show. The script writers made great sport of the Klan’s goofy terminology (“Exalted Cyclopses,” “Kleagles,” “Klaverns,” etc.) as Superman battled against them. Very soon all over the country children were playing Superman vs. The Klan and mocking the Klan’s bizarre and murderous thuggery. Members began to leave in droves.

Kennedy’s success demonstrates that it is much more difficult to strike fear into a society when its children are laughing at you. Some six decades later the comic geniuses behind South Park, Trey Parker and Matt Stone, have on occasion turned their attention to a different set of bizarre and murderous thugs...

Actually, I had seen that link before. Very funny stuff. Dunno how the guy from Africa hooked up to the North Korean forum. Maybe one of the scammers.

You can watch the Scientology episode on-line. Just go to the alternative ScienTOMogy website, and scroll down until you see the South Park episode link. Windows Media Viewer required....

Whoops - don't go to www.scientomogy.info . It looks like the nutters shut that one down.

I screwed up the link. Go to www.scienTOMogy.COM instead.

Is that for real? It can't be.

According to netcraft, the site is owned by Spain.

Regardless, it's the funniest thing I've ever read.

I wonder if they have any disruptors...

I'm so ronery, so very ronery.

If you think that one was vicious, you should have seen the one on the Mormons. These guys aren't exactly big fans of religion in any organized fashion. I mean, Jesus has a public access talk show and God in some alien looking monster in this show.

But with that being said, it is hella funny. You just have to suck it up when your own ox gets gored and realize that Barbra Streisand is still the person who has taken the worst of their antics (and the douchebag who talks to the dead).

Al Qaeda needs to respect W's authoritay!! And those tree hugging, drum circle, pot smoking, hackie sack playing hippies can go to hell.

The Queer Klux Klan was one of Chappelle's finest moments.

Trey and Matt should do to the Muslims what they did to the Scientologists.

This is also a major problem for the Moro Islamic Liberation Front.

I hope they do that episode, and do it last, because after that one they'd have to hide out with Salmon Rushdie.

Oh, I've seen every south park ever shown - all the way from the original spirit of christmas.

While you're right about them being brutal on the mormons, their treatment of Jesus and especially his place in modern society is more reverant, even if it seems to be blasphemous for some.

For example, there's the boxing match versus satan - where it's a lesson about people abandoning their faith and betting on satan. Or Jesus having to resort to a cable access show to get his message out (once turning it into a jerry springer clone in one episode). And especially during the "red sleigh down" episode, where Jesus rescued santa from his captors in the middle east, and paid for it with his life. In the end, santa gives this little speech:

" Everyone! Everyone, can I please have
your attention? Christmas is a very
special time of year, but... this year
it almost didn't happen. There's a man
named Jesus who gave his life to save
me. And so I declare that every year
on Christmas Day. we should remember
Jesus for what he did, and thank him
for it. From now on, Christmas will
be a day for remembering a brave man
named Jesus."

Which is a biting commentary on how the meaning of christmas has shifted from Jesus Christ to celebrating "Xmas", which is all about presents.

Did you see the episode where Jesus saved Santa from torture by some Muslims?

That one was excellent.
