‘Real Men Moisturize’
Jewish World Review ^ | June 3, 2005 | Mona Charen

Posted on 11/29/2005 2:57:30 PM PST by jjm2111

"Real Men Moisturize." So begins an article on "Sharp Dressed Men" that appeared in a State Department funded magazine aimed at youth in the Arab world. The magazine, called "Hi" is published in Arabic and English....

The article continues: "In fact, some of them, like Michael Gustman, a 25-year-old public relations account executive from Boca Raton, Fla., even have separate moisturizers for the face and body. Facial pores can clog with too heavy a salve, it seems. Gustman exfoliates. He gets pedicures. He gets facials. He accessorizes. ... In a word, he's a metrosexual."

[snip]

...Is this what the U.S. State Department thinks America is really like? How many men, outside a tiny subset in major cities, are the primping, feminized "metrosexuals" the article lauds? ... You cannot enhance understanding between one people and another by presenting a false version of one side.

...Does the State Department believe that Arab males — some of whom do not permit their wives and daughters to go out in public without a male family member as escort, others of whom think nothing of killing a daughter who dishonors the family by fraternizing with a boy — are going to be impressed with a vision of America in which males are feminized "exfoliated," smooth-skinned eunuchs?

The State Department is apparently so delighted with the Hi Magazine approach that they are translating it for use around the world.

[snip]

In this "everybody's world," particularly the parts at which Hi Magazine is pitched, there are troubles that seem a bit remote from hair and nail care. In Iraq, half the population, according to one poll, believes that a man has a right to beat his wife if she disobeys him (and the Koran gives this sanction).

[snip]

And the State Department magazine prattles about facials.

It wouldn't surprise me if the State Department was publishing this with the clear understanding that it would elicit contempt in men of those cultures.

I have to agree. State is filled with those who have gone native into the other cultures and would like to see America knocked down a few notches and lose the war in Iraq. I had hoped Condi would clean house over there, but so far she hasn't done anything about it.

I moisturize my head since it is shaved clean. If I don't, it flakes.

That's way, way too much information!

I still believe that the "oiled bodies" phenomenom in the gladiator films was pure Hollywood.

They rubbed oil on the parts of their bodies they wanted to shave, then used a scaper (not really sharp enough to be called a "razor") to scrape the hair and oil off. So there's actually some truth to it.

The only times I moisturized, is when I am playing sports.

Football, baseball, softball, hockey.

Pretty much it, unless I get seriously dry skin from something, but pretty much sports only usage.

FWIW, Playing football, softball, and baseball, its better to have soft hands (to catch and to hit) and skin lotion does that.

But to use it for some kind of consemetic thing?

Nope.

Besides its better then those players who piss on their hands to keep them soft.

He gets manicures. He gets pedicures. He gets facials. He gets his hair done every two weeks. He accessorizes.

I he gets all that... he wouldn't get me, lol. Although, I love the refined and sensitive nature part, but I can't believe the State Department is funding this magazine. This is sooo gay.

Perhaps the State Department found a way to counterbalance the Koran.

Being a real man myself, I don't understand why anyone would have a problem with a man who takes pride in his appearance. The Left may love metrosexuals, whatever that is, but a man doesn't have to be one of those to care about his cleanliness, grooming, and clothing.

I think it was a Mel Brooks movie that had the line:

"They hearken back to the days when men were men and the women were glad of it."

The SNAGs (sensitive new age guys) of our State Dept. must protect their "precious bodily fluids" (re. to Gen. Jack D. Ripper, Dr. Strangelove).

‘Real Men Moisturize’

Metrosexuals moisturize.

You heard it here first.

"Do you moisturize?"

"You know, I've tried all sorts of moisturizers. I even went fragrance free for a whole year. Now my sister, she uses some kind of uh... uh... uh... uh... aloe vera with a little sunscreen in it, and ideally, we should all wear gloves when going to bed, but I found out that that creates a kind of an interference with my... social agenda, you know what I mean."
