TRY AGAIN, MR. PRESIDENT -- THOSE WERE EMPTY WORDS [The Presidnet's Amnesty Program]
Neal Boortz ^ | Nov. 29, 2005 | Neal Boortz

Posted on 11/29/2005 5:25:04 AM PST by conservativecorner

Yesterday, George W. Bush strode to a podium in Tucson, Arizona (I love Tucson!) and against a backdrop of law enforcement officers, announced his latest plan to crack down on illegal aliens. There was nothing in his speech we haven't heard before, and his new immigration policy is just as contradictory as the old one. Among the initiatives announced:

We should build more jail cells to hold illegal aliens. Good idea. The speeding up of deportations, a crackdown on fraudulent identity papers, and a hardening of the border with more surveillance. So far, so good. Then the nonsense started to flow. The president urged Congress to pass his guest-worker amnesty program and repeated the nonsense that the illegal aliens are here "to fill jobs that Americans will not do."

Same old, same old. It is impossible to stand there and say you're going to crack down on illegal immigration while at the same time say that you are going to reward people who broke our immigration laws. The president says it's not amnesty. Ok, now we've finally caught the president in a lie. OF COURSE it's amnesty! When you tell someone who has broken the law that you are not only going to ignore their illegal conduct, but you are actually going to reward them for it, then you have more than plain old garden variety amnesty, you have amnesty with perks!

As for the oft-repeated line that the illegal aliens fill jobs Americans won't, that's also a load. Companies may not be able to fill those jobs with Americans at the same low wages they pay Mexicans, but there are plenty of people in this country that would do the work at the right price. OK .. so the price of headless chickens, landscaping and construction might go up, but at least the people receiving those paychecks would be law-abiding residents of this country, most of whom would be citizens. There is something wrong with the idea of celebrating lower home prices when those lower prices are brought with disrespect for the laws of our country. It gets worse than that. We are threatening our very security by singing the praises of illegal aliens in our workforce. Just two weeks ago we were interviewing a Texas congressman who was telling us that U.S. intelligence agencies have knowledge that Al Qaeda terrorists have moved to Mexico, adopted Hispanic identities, learned the Spanish language, and then moved right into the United States across our porous borders.

George Bush failed to address the problem appropriately yesterday, but this isn't strictly a George Bush issue. There is absolutely no willingness on the part of either political party to crack down on illegal immigration. There are simply too many votes to be had in the Hispanic community. So as a result, our security as a nation is threatened and our cities and states are overrun with illegal aliens.

I'm sure representatives of Al-Qaeda are preparing to apply for their guest-worker permits as we speak.

Why Health Care Is So Costly

Phyllis Schlafly
Jan. 29, 2003

While Americans without health insurance struggle with the problem of how to pay for medical care, Mexicans don't have that problem. They just ride in a Mexican ambulance across the border to a hospital in Arizona, New Mexico, California or Texas, and get free medical treatment.

The costs are currently paid by a combination of socking the taxpayers in those four border states plus inflating prices for patients who pay their own bills, insurance companies and Medicaid.

This ridiculous situation is caused by a combination of U.S. officials allowing the Mexican cars to cross our border plus the federal Emergency Medical Treatment and Active Labor Act, which mandates that U.S. hospitals with emergency-room services treat anyone who shows up for care including illegal aliens. This unfunded mandate was legislated by a Congress that closed its eyes to the costs.

We are not just talking about Mexicans who may have had an accident close to the border. We are talking about Mexicans with serious health problems who are deliberately sent to the United States after Mexican hospitals discover they can't pay for services and have no insurance.

Senators John McCain and John Kyl have proposed a solution for this dilemma: lighten the tax burden on their own state while shifting it to U.S. taxpayers nationwide. How parochial! They introduced a bill to hit the U.S. taxpayers for $200 million for medical treatment of illegal aliens.

Funny you should use New Orleans as an example.

Here's another example of "jobs lazy Americans won't do." Hell, people won't even stay and clean up their own excrement in their own home-town.

KATRINA: New Orleans leaders are upset, but some evacuees say they wouldn't want the jobs.
09:35 PM PDT on Friday, October 7, 2005 By ADAM NOSSITER / The Associated Press

They clear rotten seafood from stinking restaurant freezers, wash excrement from the floors of the Superdome, rip out wads of soaked insulation. The work is hot, nasty and critical to the recovery of New Orleans. And yet, many of the workers are not actually from New Orleans. Many of those engaged in the huge cleanup and reconstruction effort -- nobody has an exact count -- are immigrants, both legal and illegal, from Mexico and Central America. Meanwhile, as many as 80,000 New Orleanians sit idle in shelters around the country. They are out of work, homeless and destitute. That irks some civic and union leaders. (snip)

Yuh know denny, I worked through the "union system"(the workplace was union, but it was a "right to work state" and I didn't give union extortion dues)) and worked my butt off but was denied advancement because I did work my butt off and made the other guys look "bad".

I get it. It's all about you. All about your experiences in life and the grudges you hold. Pathetic

Americans lose jobs to illegal aliens and you favor it! Because they were in a union. Not that you know a damn thing about that particular union. Because it's all about Dane's trials and tribulations

If the circumstances were a little different and this happened now and in one of the many parts of the country inundated with criminal invaders, you'd be working your butt off only to get the pink slip because your slimeball employer decided it was far easier and cheaper to commit a felony and illegally hire one of the invaders in your place. That way he can exploit the poor, ignorant third-worlder, pay him less, deny him benefits, and even keep him off the books instead of paying you the fair market rate, treating you right, and giving you appropriate benefits. Instead of blaming the corrupt unions for everything, you'd be on here telling it like it is about the criminal invaders who are stealing American jobs.

In your own fever-deluded mind. Try as you might at misdirection, the topic is not trial lawyers or corrupt unions, it is criminal invaders and how they're destroying our nation. Please try to keep up.

What I see more is a pattern of YOU defending lawbreakers, American business owners committing crimes by hiring illegals, and generally blaming the entire state of affairs on anything other than the huge elephant in the room called illegal aliens.

Why's that, Dane?

But what happens when wages are lowered because the government turns a blind eye to the illegal importation of workers? There by flooding the market?

Good point. Cheap labor does not go away because the US govt says so. 3rd world countries exist, and so does their labor whether they are here (homebuilding) or at home (maquiladoras).

I would like to see a real border (maybe even put some real water in the Rio Grande!) But the problem, I think, is that labor is expensive in the US, and those costs (OSHA, EPA, workers comp) cost us all no matter where the cheap Chinese or Mexican labor lives.

Either labor goes to capital, or capital goes to labor.

Yes disgusting jobs indeed! but we are Americans...but the perspective can look very different from other countries position. Poverty, has a way of motivating people in ways we in US can not understand. These facts you mention, probably prove better than anything, that there could be/should be a program of some kind to let people from other countries do these jobs... and at the same time protect them a bit with medical and other basic services. Maybe the Government should study which jobs need people willing to do them, and provide the mechanism for for immigrants to do these jobs, say a contract for a period of 5 years, at which time, they could be eligible for permanent residence.. assuming they keep their nose clean... and 4 years if they learn English and pass a test to certify this, etc etc. IOW, we could satisfy our needs, reward some people willing to work, and keep order and protect the borders, all at the same time!... instead of the mess we have now.
