TRY AGAIN, MR. PRESIDENT -- THOSE WERE EMPTY WORDS [The Presidnet's Amnesty Program]
Neal Boortz ^ | Nov. 29, 2005 | Neal Boortz

Posted on 11/29/2005 5:25:04 AM PST by conservativecorner

Yesterday, George W. Bush strode to a podium in Tucson, Arizona (I love Tucson!) and against a backdrop of law enforcement officers, announced his latest plan to crack down on illegal aliens. There was nothing in his speech we haven't heard before, and his new immigration policy is just as contradictory as the old one. Among the initiatives announced:

We should build more jail cells to hold illegal aliens. Good idea. The speeding up of deportations, a crackdown on fraudulent identity papers, and a hardening of the border with more surveillance. So far, so good. Then the nonsense started to flow. The president urged Congress to pass his guest-worker amnesty program and repeated the nonsense that the illegal aliens are here "to fill jobs that Americans will not do."

Same old, same old. It is impossible to stand there and say you're going to crack down on illegal immigration while at the same time say that you are going to reward people who broke our immigration laws. The president says it's not amnesty. Ok, now we've finally caught the president in a lie. OF COURSE it's amnesty! When you tell someone who has broken the law that you are not only going to ignore their illegal conduct, but you are actually going to reward them for it, then you have more than plain old garden variety amnesty, you have amnesty with perks!

As for the oft-repeated line that the illegal aliens fill jobs Americans won't, that's also a load. Companies may not be able to fill those jobs with Americans at the same low wages they pay Mexicans, but there are plenty of people in this country that would do the work at the right price. OK .. so the price of headless chickens, landscaping and construction might go up, but at least the people receiving those paychecks would be law-abiding residents of this country, most of whom would be citizens. There is something wrong with the idea of celebrating lower home prices when those lower prices are brought with disrespect for the laws of our country. It gets worse than that. We are threatening our very security by singing the praises of illegal aliens in our workforce. Just two weeks ago we were interviewing a Texas congressman who was telling us that U.S. intelligence agencies have knowledge that Al Qaeda terrorists have moved to Mexico, adopted Hispanic identities, learned the Spanish language, and then moved right into the United States across our porous borders.

George Bush failed to address the problem appropriately yesterday, but this isn't strictly a George Bush issue. There is absolutely no willingness on the part of either political party to crack down on illegal immigration. There are simply too many votes to be had in the Hispanic community. So as a result, our security as a nation is threatened and our cities and states are overrun with illegal aliens.

I'm sure representatives of Al-Qaeda are preparing to apply for their guest-worker permits as we speak.

I am, but all of the sudden you wish to keep the obvious corrupt American union issue quiet.

I would be refreshingly amazed to no end if dane once, just once save the insults and debated the merits of an issue.

Huh you mentioned trial lawyers in you first sentence and then dropped them for a tirade about people seeking medical help, and closing your above without naming the true cause of the medical crisis in America(trial lawyers).

It was NOT trial lawyers that caused one of only two trauma centers in Tucson, Arizona to close down. The trauma centers in Tucson serve all of southern Arizona, a now there is only one. Why? I'm sure that you can guess. The trauma center at Tucson Medical Center was inundated with illegal aliens and other criminal invaders. These criminals had not means to pay, but the hospital was forced to treat them. The hospital could not afford it so they closed the trauma center down.

There is only one trauma center left in Tucson. It operates at the University Medical Center. It may have to close down too because now they must handle ALL of the criminal invaders in southern Arizona who require trauma treatment.

If that trauma center closes, that will mean that residents of southern Arizona will have to travel all the way to the Phoenix area for critical emergency treatment. That additional 30-minute helicopter ride or 2-hour ambulance ride will KILL PEOPLE. Many will not be able to survive that long. From my border community, it takes an hour to an hour and a half to reach the nearest trauma center in Tucson by vehicle. By helicopter, it is less than 30 minutes. If that trauma center closes, it will more than double the time it takes for residents of this community to make it to a trauma center. PEOPLE WILL DIE BECAUSE OF THIS. It is a very real situation. The Federal Government is throwing your money and that of every other taxpayer in the country at the problem. Federal money does make it to the hospital to cover SOME of the costs of treating the illegal aliens. But it is not enough and it shouldn't be happening anyway.

In addition, the Copper Queen Hospital in Bisbee, Arizona has had to close its maternity wing. Was it because of trial lawyers? No. Bisbee is only a few miles from the border. The hospital there was inundated with illegal alien women hoping to drop an anchor baby in the U.S. They would wait until the last minute, get across the border and get to the hospital either by their own means or by Border Patrol. The hospital was going broke delivering these babies for free and the Federal funds to pay for SOME of the treatment was not sufficient. This is similar to the Southeast Arizona Medical Center in Douglas, Arizona. No maternity care, no delivery room. The entire southeast corner of the state of Arizona is covered by the Sierra Vista Regional Health Center in Sierra Vista, AZ. How long do you think they can handle the load? All of my children were born there. Imagine if the closest hospital delivery room was over an hour a way or more if I lived near Douglas, AZ. My wife would not have made it to the hospital for two of our four children. One had the umbilical cord tightly wrapped around his neck. Would he have survived the trip?

This is the situation on the ground. You can pretend that it is trial lawyers that are solely to blame for health care problems, but those of us who live here, on the border, know the truth. The problems we face here on these issues are the fault of the criminal invaders, those who hire them, those who enable them, and those who refuse to seal the border. I can never expect you to come over to our side on this issue, but I do with that you would just STFU about stuff you know so little about but over which you are more than happy to make a fool of yourself.

And many business and the congress are pillars of virtue. The reason unions came into being was that people wanted more and were willing to band together to get it. The bargained int the market and got ahead. They have the right.

Little story for Dane. Years ago in our nice little town we had a beef packing plant. Union it was!!!. Jobs paid decent around $14.00 to $18.00 per hour. Now that was in the late 70's. Guess what Dane. Management brought up a bunch of "slime ball illegal immigrants" and used them to break the union. Wages went down to $8.00 to $10.00 per hr. Locals picked up the medical expenses and the food stamps for this labor force. Schools system hired additional teachers for each course of study to teach in "spanish". Nice old neighborhoods in the town went to "shit" and are now trash heaps. Ask the people in Greeley CO. how much their property values have gone up since the massive influx of illegal immigration mainly from Mexico happened. They have watched the value of their homes go down 20-30 percent. They are still selling just to get the hell out of there before the whole town becomes a slum.

In 1985 my father was a carpenter and made $15 an hour. This was about the time you saw a lot of illegals flood the job market in the building trades. A good carpenter now makes $15 an hour. The cost of illegals.

Uh my speculation is that the union was broken because the "illegals" didn't demand their every 5 minute on the hour coffee break or they didn't protest it was against union rules to plug in something and didn't need to look at the rule book or get the union steward to approve.

77 border state hospitals declare bankruptcy due to illegal immigration

* * *

In TIME’S “WHO LEFT THE DOOR OPEN?” September 12, 2004, journalists Barlett and Steele exposed the ugly side of this invasion.

“The plight of Jim Dickson, a hospital administrator in Bisbee, Arizona summed it up in one image,” Barlett wrote. “It’s an ambulance that pulls into Copper Queen Hospital and discharges illegal aliens injured in an auto accident. The border patrol officers on orders from Washington refused to take them onto the property. Instead, the officers call an ambulance for the injured so the U.S. Government won’t be responsible for hospital costs. Instead, Dickson’s hospital gets stiffed.”

In 2003, 77 border state hospitals spiraled into bankruptcy. Instead of putting troops on the borders to stop the invasion, Arizona Senators McCain and Kyle added a $1.4 billion bailout rider onto a Medicaid bill. Instead of doing their jobs, they made taxpayers vomit their hard-earned money into paying for the invasion’s consequences. Result? It wasn’t enough. Three Los Angeles area hospitals bankrupted already this year. Dickson’s small hospital lost $1.4 million in the past three years. “The more free care we give,” he said, “the more we have to ration what’s left.”

Yeah and if the market was fair - all of us competing on the same level field of taxes, etc - then bring it on. But if illegal immigrants are essentially putting their thumbs on the scale, then it's not a fair market, now, is it?

Yeah my family lost their farm back in 1832 when my great-great-great-great grandfather got a hernia pulling a tree stump out of a rocky NJ field. The 8 kids were sent to several different places, and yeah they were grateful for the beans. So should I aspire to live that kind of life, eating beans and being grateful for it?

Apparently most Americans didn't think so, which is why we adopted citizenship and immigration laws in the 1890s.

You're right in that I have not enough time to discuss this more today. It doesn't seem as if any opinions on either side are going to be changed by our further debate anyway.
