I heard on the radio this morning, that a pilot of a passenger jet departing LAX claimed to have narrowly avoided being hit by a missile. It was reported that the jet was about 6,000 feet in altitude & over the ocean when the event occurred. The news report further stated that authorities believe it was possibly a flare or a "bottle rocket."
I googled but found nothing. Anyone else have some info on this? I dont recall whether it was CBS or NBC radio news.
John Wayne Airport(SNA)is 35 miles south of Los Angeles. (LAX)
I just checked the LAX schedule and there is no AA flights with AA6-- on the schedule, so I am presuming that AA621 is in error.
This thread is turning into a tinfoil hat post. Ah well.
Yeah, bummer. Because I know I heard the report, and I'd still like to know what the hell happened.
Most interesting. Thanks!
Anyone check Google Earth?
Is it possible to go back to a certain date and time on that system?
Also, anyone check the flight www4.passur.com?
OJ is relentless. Nazi-hunter Simon Wiesthenthal could learn a thing or two about persistance from this fellow.
so would I. I thought I had come onto something with the ABC call but obviously they got their story all wrong. I'm confused, too.
I know that the report I heard from Doug Lymerick (sp) on ABC news was that the plane had departed from LAX, it was over water and turning around to head east. I cannot go back to the 27th on any of AA flights to see if flight 621 ever entered into or out of LAX prior to yesterday or the 28th and AA did not have any flight information in their computers for any flights out of LAX on the 27th or early 28th (which I thought was odd) but I'm not in aviation so I don't know how long they keep this information.
Any pilots out there that can shed some light?
Good Morning Bump!
I received an email from Melanie Morgan and out of respect for email privacy will only quote that incident is being investigated by an organization called Northeast Intellience.org.
....and the news story was first aired by Alex Stone out of ABC's Los Angeles news bureau.
Sounds she will monitor the thread also.
If she gives permission I will post the email.
thanks for the update.
Curious as to your rationale!
Interesting, your post about inaccessibility of plane information. BTW, John Wayne Airport, located in another county (Orange), is NOT part of LAX, which is situated out by a beach city, Santa Monica, a part of Los Angeles County.
I don't have information on the flight number either.
Check your mail
Officially LAX is in Inglewood, but it sits on the coast between Marina Del Rey and El Segundo.
John Wayne Airport is over 40 miles to the south.
I'm aware of that, having lived in So. California for about 30 years; however, I assumed the poster was unfamiliar with the names and towns of the area, and believed she might have heard of Santa Monica, a beach located approximately 13 miles from LAX.
Its in westchester
Have you ever been to Titos?
