Treating every American as a criminal is a bad idea.
To: jdege
Allowing Wisconsin residents to carry concealed firearms may not reduce crime. Well it has everywhere else, so perhaps this guy's opinion is a little biased right off the bat.

I strongly support the ability for people to defend themselves, butEveryone has a big "but".
What he means is that he supports self defense, as long as you don't use any scary weapons.

Yeah really. An elite cop who think he knows what's best for Joe Six Pack. I'm sick and tired of this condescending attitude to the Little People. He really needs to stuff it - and I'm not talking about turkey here!

"...is a potentially dangerous decision."
"...may not reduce crime"
"...crime may increase"
"...there will be, without a doubt, more firearms in our homes and on our streets."
He doesn't seem to know much but he sure seems to have a strong stand. I wonder what makes him think that his limited training on carry a gun makes him an expert and the rest of us just a bunch of dolts.

I agree that retired law enforcement professionals should be permitted to carry a concealed firearm... "Law enforcement profesionals" are supercitizens, after all, not like the rest of the peasants.

"more firearms in our homes"
That comment, alone, singles him out as an elitist liberal who thinks no one should even own guns.

Self-defense for "retired law enforcement professionals" but not for the general public, eh? You better take a look at the experience of other states. Shall-issue concealled carry works in reducing crime.

There are a lot of responsibilities that come with carrying a concealed firearm and being able to effectively use it against someone in their self-defense or in the defense of another human being. Yep. On this one point I will agree.
It is a shame the rest of the article is such horse hockey.

So can I sue you for not being there when I am assaulted or attacked? If you do not allow me to protect myself, you should be responsible.
To: jdege
Jackbooted thugs hate the idea of an armed citizenry. The whole tone of the article is one of an unquestioning authoritarian. The notion of "Allowing concealed carry" suggests that some citizens are in a position to allow G-d given freedoms to others.

The reason to carry a concealed weapon isn't that it will reduce crime because it probably doesn't. I carry a concealed weapon to help protect myself and my family. I don't have the luxury and wealth to have a full time body guard and, it the community I live in doesn't have the funds to give every citizen police protection 24/7.
