I'm so sick of this garbage. Whichever store I see actively promoting Christmas is where I will spend my dollars. If I don't find one, the money is better spent by giving to Christian charities anyway.
Today's K-Mart ad (came with the paper) features "Martha Stewart Holiday Non-Lit Trees"
I was at the post office yesterday and saw a poster advertising seasonal stamps for sale. The stamps included were: Kwanzaa, Hannuka, Eid, and Holiday.
Just an FYI (and if you're interested in signing the petition, I clicked the link in the article where it takes you to the petition)
I have boycotted Target for a long time anyway, because they are JERKS about returns! Just awful! I'll take my $$$ some place else.
I went to Lowe's to buy a Christmas tree, but they didn't have any, just something they called "Holiday trees".
So I went somewhere else where I could buy what I was looking for.
I think just for fun I'll go into Lowe's this weekend and ask where the Christmas trees are. When the clerk leads me to the aisle that says "Holiday Trees", I'll say "That's not what I'm looking for. Do you know where they sell Christmas Trees?"
Boycott Lowes and Target????? How about including Walmart, and Sears and anybody else that is taking Christ out of Christmas.
Anyway, I decided to write them, to tell them of my concern (my wife must be a VIP customer of theirs), and to say that my dollars can be spent elsewhere, at stores who do not find Christmas to be offensive.
Amazingly I had a real person answer me, and I print that letter below:
Thank you for your recent e-mail message regarding our omission of the word "Christmas" in our catalogs.
Lands' End has adopted the "holiday" terminology as a way to comply with one of the basic freedoms granted to all Americans: freedom of religion. We recognize that Christmas is a Christian holiday, and one of the foremost teachings of the Christian faith is a love for one's fellowman- -no matter what his race, religion, or creed.
If we knew which customers feel as you feel, we would be delighted to send them catalogs with Christmas splashed throughout the pages. However, we don't know, and we no more wish to offend anyone than you would knowingly say something offensive to an acquaintance.
Therefore, we are using the term "holiday" to show respect for all individuals, including those who do not celebrate Christmas but instead observe other festive days and beliefs during this season. They, too, are our customers, our friends, and our neighbors.
We are truly sorry that you are disappointed with our decision. However, we hope you'll respect our position as we respect yours.
All of us at Lands' End wish you a very joyous and festive Christmas, filled with love and peace, and a happy, healthy, prosperous New Year!
Please feel free to contact us again at any time!
What I am fascinated by is the use of the word comply. Who is forcing this merchant to comply with the First Amendment? This is political correctness run amok.
The other thing I find interesting is the preachy little sermonette about central tenets of the Christian faith.
In the end, they admit, that if they have to offend anyone, it will be Christians--by leaving out the offensive word Christmas from their catalogues.
In fairness, they did wish me a Merry Christmas--but I wonder if their political commissar approved that salutation.
If you wish to drop them a polite note, you can do so from here.
Christmas BUMP!
This is so bogus.
Last Sunday, ads from Sears, Walgreens and Target:
-holiday trees
-holiday lights
-holiday trimmings etc
If they are just holiday trees then why not sell them on Easter? Why not put up the holiday lights on the 4th of July.
I don't hear anyone pushing to rename menorahs as holiday candlesticks!
And more often then not this is defended in the name of diversity. Diversity of a minuscule minority.
Diversity does not a tradition destroy.
In an effort to get Target to include "Christmas" in their in-store promotions and retail advertising for next year's (2006) season, we wrote Chairman Robert Ulrich. We told Chairman Ulrich that we knew it was too late to change his in-store promotions and retail advertising for this year. We asked him if Target would assure us that the company would make Christmas an integral part of their promotions and advertising next year.We told Chairman Ulrich that if Target would honor our request, we would encourage our supporters and others to shop at Target. But we also said that if he refused, or did not respond, we would ask our supporters to boycott Target.
How did Chairman Ulrich respond to our request? He did not respond at all! Chairman Ulrich sent a clear messageTarget will continue to ban "Christmas."

ATTENTION! Expect Target To Try To Confuse You
When you call Target, they will no doubt try to confuse you. You may be told their employees are free to greet people with a "Merry Christmas." You may be told that they support the Salvation Army. You may be told many things in order to confuse you.
Therefore, ask this one simple basic question and don't allow them to confuse you. "Do you use the term 'Christmas' in your in-store promotions developed by Target (not products you have for sale) and do you include the term 'Christmas' in your retail advertising?"
Target refuses to use "Christmas" in their in-store promotions or in their retail advertising. If you are told they do, you are being mislead.
