CNN MARKS CHENEY: NETWORK FLASHES 'X' OVER VP'S FACE DURING LIVE SPEECH

At 11:04:45 AM ET Monday CNN was airing Vice President Dick Cheney's speech live from the American Enterprise Institute in Washington -- when a large black 'X' repeatedly flashed over the vice president's face!

The 'X' over Cheney's face appeared each time less than a second, creating an odd subliminal effect.

As this DRUDGE REPORT screen capture reveals, while one 'X' flashed over Cheney's face CNN ran a headline at the bottom of its screen: "CHENEY: I DO NOT BELIEVE IT IS WRONG TO CRITICIZE."

One top White House source expressed concern about what was aired over CNN.

"Is someone in Atlanta trying to tell us something?"

A CNN spokesman did not return repeated calls late Monday night.

Sure... a fader bar looks sort of like a very small throddle control on a boat. A small lever that can be pushed forward to a stop or pulled back to a stop. The "fader bar" is used to smoothly transition between two video sources. In this case when the fader bar was pulled back we have a picture of V.P. Cheney only. When we push the bar forward we keep the picture of the V.P. but then fade in the black "X". The video I saw the "X" did not appear suddenly as in a "take" it was "faded" in and then back out.

Actually no. I think that most journalists in Washington have absolutely NO CLUE that they are so intensely biased.

And there we have tragedy of the situation.

Journalists are taught that to be a journalist, they have to be completely non-bias, to the point of having no emotional attachments to that which they are reporting on.

To the journalists, to have bias is the moment they stop being 'journalists'.

But they forgot that there can be more than two points of view on a subject and that they as journalists are reporting from a bias third point of view.

And their arrogance blinds them from admitting their bias.

just saw cheney on cnn. an amazing thing happened just moments into his speech. as i was watching him begin, a big X flashed on the screen, very remeniscent of the big X that flashes on family feud and other game shows when the contestent gives a wrong answer. it made me feel for all the world as if there was some kind of mind control thing going on. of course there was, it was embedded in snarley's speech, which was a bit toned down from the last one that got him headlines. he proved my original impression of murthas little talk, that it was designed to give an opportunity to provide the people "evidence" that america was still engaged in free and open debate. that is the point ricky embraced in his speech, and that is also the big lie of the day. ultimately nothing changes and we stay the same insane course we are on.

I counted three. I'm at the limit of my eyesight, however. I'm not exactly a spring chicken anymore.

Whatever the overlay text is- its slanting at an approximate 10 degree angle to the left of the publicly viewed text under it. That makes it harder to read.

You're right. If FOX had done this to Kerry a few years ago, we'd still be hearing about it today... With Cheney, this story's deader than a doornail...

Standard NTSC video is 30 frames per second. To pull this off, an animation had to be created, striped to tape, and overlayed or keyed over the Cheney feed. It's possible it was a mistake. It isn't likely it was a mistake.

Best assessment I have seen so far. Add the words appearing below the X that ended with the word 'black' and I would almost guarantee that this was not simply a glitch......

Less than a second. Well, isn't that interesting...

In order to pull that little trick, they had to key an animated "X" in every fifteen frames or so.

It does look like operator error. Somewhere along the line someone probably puched up the CG (Chyron, Character Gen). -keyed it in - and the text had a flashing X in it. I bet it was most likely that someone was playing around in a control room to cause this.

Was Cheney wearing a flag lapel pin when the "X" was not present? It looks as though it was blacked out with another patch of black below the right leg of the "X".
