CNN MARKS CHENEY: NETWORK FLASHES 'X' OVER VP'S FACE DURING LIVE SPEECH

At 11:04:45 AM ET Monday CNN was airing Vice President Dick Cheney's speech live from the American Enterprise Institute in Washington -- when a large black 'X' repeatedly flashed over the vice president's face!

The 'X' over Cheney's face appeared each time less than a second, creating an odd subliminal effect.

As this DRUDGE REPORT screen capture reveals, while one 'X' flashed over Cheney's face CNN ran a headline at the bottom of its screen: "CHENEY: I DO NOT BELIEVE IT IS WRONG TO CRITICIZE."

One top White House source expressed concern about what was aired over CNN.

"Is someone in Atlanta trying to tell us something?"

A CNN spokesman did not return repeated calls late Monday night.

I think what he was trying to state by highlighting that is that someone had to go to some extra work to have the black x show up on screen so likely it was not an accident.

I just looked at the video too...that was "mixed". The timing was perfect for the movement of a fader bar from one stop to the next and then back again.

CNN is not broadcast over the air - it is cable, so the FCC does not have jurisdiction.

Not exactly. The FCC does have some limited oversight over cable programming. From the FCC Cable Television Fact Sheet:

Indecency and obscenity. Generally, the rules concerning the content of programming on cable channels are not as strict as the rules concerning programming content on non-cable channels. If you object to programming on a cable system, you may contact the FCC to determine what rules may be applicable and what action may be appropriate.

I haven't found anything about whether the subliminal perception rules apply to cable. There is a regulation promulgated under the broadcast station rules - 47 CFR 73.4250, which refers to a public notice promulgated in the 70s, before the advent of cable TV.

Yes. And it isn't likely that an animated key was randomly inserted over the Cheney feed that, when played at a standard 30 frames per second, magically repeated itself at every 15 frames or 30 fields per second so as to escape notice.

Does anyone else see the large "CNN" logo in the bottom right hand corner? It surrounds the word "black" which we have already figured out.

Its definitely something oval to semi-oval in shape and it has varying shades to it. A soccer ball could very well be the object.

Apparently someone put up an additional chyron (text Character generator) to cause this. The key would be to enchance the image enough to see the text that is abscured at the bottom of the screen.
