An exchange with Margaret Warner on last night's "NewsHour With Jim Lehrer," though, suggests that Murtha has simply taken leave of reality:
Warner: But may I ask you, sir, if you believe--[the president] says--for whatever reason, Iraq has become the center of terrorism - that if the U.S. appears to retreat in the face of that, that it will be a blow to the American fight against radical Islamic terrorism? What do you say to that?
Murtha: Well, I say that the fight against Americans began with Abu Ghraib. It began with the invasion of Iraq. That's when terrorism started. It didn't start when there was criticism of this administration. This administration doesn't want to listen to any ideas.
So according to Murtha, "terrorism started" either in March 2003 (with the "invasion of Iraq") or in May 2004 (when the Abu Ghraib miniscandal came to light). One wonders where he was in, say, September 2001. One wonders, too, how a political party can keep a straight face while putting him forward as a spokesman on national security.

So then words against Randy "Duke" Cunningham will be withdrawn because he is Navy. I think he was called something akin to 'scumbag' on these forums.
What Murtha did as a Marine is not as important as what he is doing now, and it ain't good.
Our side is not like Murtha, the other side. We are not selling out the the soldiers and the nation (and the people of Iraq who we made a commitment to) for political gain.

I feel like all is lost when they can stand up there and turn things on their heads.
We'll find out if "all is lost" after the vote...we must first must suffer through all these self-indulgent scumbags doing their pontificating, so they can cover their asses tomorrow.

Anything to make this about anything BUT Iraq. I guess that's why the Democrats yielded all of their time to Murtha to control, to make it about HIM and not Iraq. Then they'll spin in the news tomorrow about how the Republicans impugned Murtha to deflect the lies about Iraq.

Several pages of Democrat talking points. I think the Democrats should be required by law to number their talking points like in the classic old comedian's home sketch. It would save us time.
The old comedian's home sketch is where a reporter visits the old comedian's home and starts talking to a resident. The comedian informs him that since so many jokes have been told so often they just give every joke a number to save time. He then demonstrates for the reporter by yelling our "number 43". Everyone laughs. The reporter then asks if he can try, getting laughs at a few random numbers he just blurted out off the top of his head. The reporter then says "number 53" and he gets complete silence. The old comedian dresses him down for telling the most off color joke anyone has ever heard and asks how anyone could be so crude in public.

But, to be fair, he is actually calling for more support and procurement for the military.
He is wrong on Iraq and the draft, but he is and always has been staunchly pro-military.

Is anyone speaking AFTER Murtha? The Democrats yielded all of their 30 minutes to Murtha to control.
