FACTORY PRODUCTION REBOUNDS STRONGLY! ("Hoover Economy Alert!")
AP | MARTIN CRUTSINGER

Posted on 11/17/2005 6:19:20 AM PST by SoFloFreeper

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Output at the nation's factories, mines and utilities rose at the fastest pace in 17 months in October, posting a solid rebound from the devastating Gulf Coast hurricanes. The Federal Reserve reported that industrial output was up a healthy 0.9 percent last month as refineries and oil and natural gas platforms began production again after widespread shutdowns caused by hurricanes Katrina and Rita. Last month's increase followed a 1.5 percent plunge in September, which had been the biggest one-month drop in industrial production in more than two decades.

The key word was "reacts" and that was the key based on what was discussed in that post and response. All the minutia you listed has nothing to do with the fact that a USA president has no impact on the industrial production indicator.

Minutia?

A USA president has nothing to do with the industrial production indicator? BTW, what does the industrial production indicator indicate?

You may be in the process of learning a painful lesson that many of us have learned over the years. When you come on Free Republic and prop yourself as an absolute expert you should not be surprised when many, many people who are much more astute about the subject than you are call you on the carpet.

Sorry friend.

I'll tell you another thing the President did a few years back that contributes to the general state of affairs including the economy---He told the world that this great nation will not retreat and we will hunt down the terrorist scumbags who seek to control the planet, AND we will do this for as long as it takes....I figure that by now if he had not taken his position we would be very close to getting on our knees five times a day and submitting to the dark INDICATOR in Mecca.....Not Econ. 101 but true nevertheless....

He [Bush] told the world that this great nation will not retreat and we will hunt down the terrorist scumbags

This thread is about Industrial Production and some false attempts to give credit to Bush for the last month's change in Industrial Production. What point are you trying to make? Your quote above does not make sense as 1] it has nothing to do with Industrial Production and 2] Bush has reneged on his promise to go after nations (e.g., Syria and Iran) that are killing our troops.

Even though your comment is off topic for this thread, explain why Iran builds IEDs, ships them to Iraq, blows up American solders, then Iran builds more IEDs, ships them to Iran, and kills more American soldiers, then this pattern keeps repeating and repeating and repeating.

Yet, Bush has done nothing to stop Iran.

Also, explain why Syria allows use of its borders for terrorists, opens the gate to Iraq, the terrorists kill American solders, then Syria allows more terrorists to use their border, opens the gate to Iraq, the terrorists kill American solders, then this pattern keeps repeating and repeating and repeating.

Yet, Bush has done nothing to stop Syria. Having some of our soldiers near the Syrian border is not stopping Syria.

Bush promised to go after nations that aid terrorists, yet Syria and Iran have received a free pass while our good men are getting killed.

Again, your quote above does not make sense as 1] it has nothing to do with Industrial Production and 2] Bush has reneged on his promise to go after nations (e.g., Syria and Iran) that are killing our troops.

Since you believe President Bush has directly caused the change in Industrial Production form last month's figure to this month's figure, then you are no different than those who believe President Bush created Hurricane Katrina, enhanced her power, and then steered her to New Orleans.

This also means that since Industrial Production dropped 1.3% two months ago, then somehow Bush did very bad things, and like a mean person, made Industrial Production go down 1.3%. Since you truly believe Bush caused this past month's figure to go up, then you also truly believe Bush caused the previous month's figure to go down.

This type of cartoonish crap should not be allowed on this fine forum. We have some great members here who provide good input into our discussion. Your type of "Bush caused Hurricane Katrina" crap, and "Bush caused Industrial Production to go down" crap, but this month "Bush caused Industrial Production to go up" crap ruins good discussions.

Since you have these types of crazy beliefs, and since you enjoy cartoons more than serious discussion, please post to others like yourself but please leave me off your list of members to have discussion with. I love FR and it is a valuable forum for clear thinkers. I don't like pollution, however, and this type of stuff you are saying pollutes the forum.

>>>And more proof the average American is a total moron <<<

So very true.

It seems the most taboo subject of talk shows is the FACT that the ignorance level in America is stratospheric. The national IQ has been sinking for a long time now:

Higher birthrates among the inner city uneducated poor.

Illegal alien invasion of uneducated people plus a very high birthrate among them.

A very low birthrate among the educated classes.

The dumbing down of the schools--they are making so-called standardized tests easier and easier (thus, they are no longer "standardized").

People don't educate themselves due to alternative entertainment (liberal socialist Hollyweird movies on DVD, rap music, hanging out at the malls, screwing the boyfriend because the parents are gone, computer games, etc.) It used to be people read books and magazines and self-educated themselves.

Neil Boortz has been the only talk show host who has mentioned how ignorant the American public is a few times. Too bad he and other don't devote whole shows to that FACT.

It is outrageous but true what you said. The mass public in this nation is HIGHLY ignorant and getting more stupid by the day. Hell, kids "graduate" from HS and can't read at third grade level (yea, that is stretch as some can't read at all), and some don't even speak English. Demographics are such that the majority of the people in this nation, after the high birthrates of the morons, will make morons the dominate force in the United States.

“Most voters associate the state of the economy with presidential action. Most news outlets associate the state of the economy with presidential action. They are all wrong.”

Gee, I have been thinking the economic policies of the Clinton administration are finally taking hold or maybe it’s the long term effects from the Carter Administration or possibly a solid combination of the two.

We all know that Bush has no real control on the economy. People like to say that to rip off and make fun of the liberals who think evrything bad is his fault.

Actually, many do believe that the president "controls" the economy, or has some major sway over it, which he does not. The press believes this also. The politicians here this crap so much that they feel they need to get in front of cameras and defend poor economic indicators and then when good indicators come out, trump it up like they had something to do with it.

This false association between presidential performance and economic indicators is hilarious on the surface, until you realize many feel the president has a master control panel with an arcade style control over the economy. Then , you realize how sad it is that so many are so ignorant of basic education.

"You can thank the business cycle, or you can thank the global economy, but thanking President Bush for the state of specific economic indicators is like thanking the bird flu for the Chicago White Sox winning the World Series--there simply is no relationship."

Except when the indicators were down, right?

Indeed. If the government wasn't taxing and spending like a drunken bureaucrat, why couldn't things be better, with even larger sustainable growth, improvements in all sectors of the economy, fewer downturns? Never mind that though. Any budget crises that come up will be blamed on whoever is unlucky enough to be in power.

Business cycles sound intriguing...I once had a landlord who said they were important, but he didn't tell me much about them.

How many years in a typical business cycle?
Is this business cycle proceeding at a typical rate?
Are we at a high low or middle point in this business cycle?
In which direction is the business cycle heading?
When will the business cycle next hit bottom ?
What will be the warning signs that the cycle is about to hit bottom?
