"In 2001, Rick Rescorla was the 62-year-old head of security at the Morgan Stanley Bank. The bank's offices were situated high up in the South Tower at the World Trade Center. Rescorla was convinced that Osama Bin Laden would use jet planes to try and destroy the World Trade Center.

Long before September 11th, he developed an evacuation plan for the bank. The plan and its preparation were hugely unpopular with the Morgan Stanley staff, many of whom thought Rescorla was mad. Ultimately, however, the plan saved 3,000 lives. It was put into effect after the first jet hit the North Tower--even though WTC managers were instructing everyone to stay in the buildings. When the second jet hit the South Tower, Rescorla averted panic and organized a rapid evacuation. Rescorla went back inside to help the injured and trapped get out. He was still inside when the building collapsed and his body was never found."

This is a very late reply, Lloyd227, but yes. I talked to Rick Rescorla in 1993 when he called me to tell me my father saved his life in Vietnam in 1965. I saw the History Channel show in 2002 and put together that it was the same man, and have marveled that — had it not been for my father, Lt. Col. Roger J. Bartholomew, who was killed in action in Vietnam later in 1968 — Rick Rescorla would not have been at the World Trade Center in 2001. My dad, indirectly, made it possible for over 3,000 people to live in that attack. I tell the story to veteran’s groups in the hopes that they will tell their own stories. You never know what might be a significant change in history, due to your action or inaction!!! I’m proud of my father, who died when I was not quite 8. And I’m proud that Rick Rescorla, likely due to his own inner strength as well as the examples of heroism and bravery he likely saw in Vietnam, allowed his strength of character and great courage in the face of adversity to shine through on 9-11. He has since been immortalized with a statue at the Infantry School at Ft. Benning, GA and can be seen on the cover of the book, “We Were Soldiers Once...And Young” by Gen. Hal Moore and Joe Galloway. Late reply to your post, but I was googling something and saw this and had to reply.

Wow... thanks for the reply and yes, your father is responsible for Mr. Rescorla having been there to save countless others and we’ll hever know what those folks will accomplish and achieve on down the line.
