President Bush is making a speech at noon. Fox is reporting he will address the criticism aimed at him by the democrats in the past two weeks.
Mod note: Click here for transcript thread.
I've read this entire thread and don't think I've seen one single leftist talking point.
Could you direct us to one, please.
No it isn't! Finally GW Bush hit back at the lies and distortions of his left-wing critics and "those who would re-write history" and that is what is firing up his conservative majority base. If this would be followed up with tangible hard-hitting words AND ACTIONS on illegal immigration, out-of-control govt spending, and just good 'ol fashioned ass-whuppin of the DemonRATs and left-wing hysterical MSM, we would see an explosion of favorable ratings and support for GW. That's what we need!!! We got a good start of it with his speech today!
Plus we need the spineless RAT B@$t@#d cowardly Senate & House Republicans to open up and come out swinging for the President as well!!!
How was the speech?
I've missed EVERYTHING for the past two weeks, dang it.
I'm trying to catch up when I can!
Bush won in 2004 and Republicans extended their majority in Congress.
Bush's problem is not with the RATs but with conservatives.
It is ludicrous for Bush to respond to "Democrat critics". Bush needs to address his CONSERVATIVE critics.
My take is Bush and the Republuicans are 1] clueless and 2] more Rat-like than conservative. The problems run deep among Republicans and the that deep problem is that the GOP simply is not conservative but an echo chamber for the RATs.
The entire lot of GOP elected officials--top to bottom--needs to be cleaned out and conservatives need to be installed. If not that, then shut the party down and start fresh.
I missed this speech...anyone got a video link? CSPAN doesnt have one yet.
It was an excellent speech. Well delivered. Strong. Three paragraphs toward the end about the lies by the leftists.
The "New Tone" was a worthy idea, and has worked well in some venues, but not in the Iraq war context.Your speech was good, and a move in the right direction, but not nearly aggressive enough. Your critics in Congress KNOW they are lying about the record with respect to the Iraq War debate, and the media KNOWS they are lying, but is letting them get away with it.
Liars (and seditionists) are emboldened if they are not held to personal account. It's come to the point where the Democrat leadership in Congress -- not just backbench extremists and firebrands -- are repeating these lies DAILY, and in the most outrageous terms. This behavior demands decisive response. IT'S TIME TO NAME NAMES, Mr. President, and cite specific lies when responding to those who insist on re-re-re-debating the war and distorting the record. You owe this to our allies and our armed forces who are demolarized and endangered by the effects of these unremitting lies.
I wondered where you were!
I loved the speech....some didn't.....but he said what needed to be said, IMO.
It wasn't RINO's that led to the GOP takeover in 1994.
Pray for W and Our Freedom Fighters
Everyone knows in his general public behavior the President isn't a confrontational leader. He also isn't very good at staying on message. When you're POTUS, you've got to remain focused like a laserbeam. Especially when the loyal opposition starts trashing you with endless personal attacks. Bush/Cheney won reelection and placed the administration on cruise control. Its been downhill ever since. The President can regain his job approval by taking the issues and the Dems head on. The leftwingers aren't gonna just stop using the most vicious of rhetoric. Politics isn't a polite endeavor. The President has the Bully Pulpit. He should use it to his advantage. Bush can't let the leftwing define him anylonger. He needs to step up and speak out with a serious effort. The American like a good fight and they like it when their President fights for what he believes in.
No, sorry I don't have a video link. Hopefully you will see it. I think this is one of the best (and long overdue) speeches that GW Bush has given. I was watching it in my breakroom at work on Fox (I always switch the channel from CNN to Fox, just to piss of the liberals). It was a GREAT speech, more so by the fact that some of my liberal co-workers angrily left in a huff!
Agreed on all points. The first part of the speech was a repeat, the three paragraphs about critics were great. If only the three paragraphs get repeated in the press briefings.
I agree with every word you wrote.
There are freepers who are afraid to say anything bad about the president on the open forum because they get bashed, so I get gazillions of freepmails and e-mails wondering what happened to the president's feistyness.
His apparent unwillingness to take on the lies by the left has left a lot of us perplexed.
And then when we aren't HAPPY that the lies are permitted to stand, we get called trolls. LOL
This place is becoming an echo chamber and that is NOT a good thing.
Great Opportunities Pissed-away Bump.
Hey Dubya....bring back the Texas swagger will ya? Time to spank these misbehaving rebels and traitors.... Do it often too. Make Mama Bush proud sonnie boy. Stop being a wimp like daddy.
Absolutely correct.
I think this was a good beginnning. Stop treating democrats as if they're rational-- they're NOT.
