RICHMOND -- President Bush's sinking popularity helped seal Democrat Timothy M. Kaine's victory in Virginia's gubernatorial election Tuesday, politicians and pollsters said yesterday. "We know that George Bush is just killing us," said Delegate David B. Albo, a Republican who narrowly defeated his Democratic challenger in Fairfax County. "His popularity just brought the ticket down. There's no other way to explain it."
Mr. Kaine, the current lieutenant governor, defeated Republican Jerry W. Kilgore by six percentage points in a contest that had been a statistical dead heat in the days before the election.

Then why did the GOP actually gain a seat in the VA big 3(Lt. Gov. and Atty. Gen.)
Just wait. The bushbot choir will be along shortly to sing his and the other RINO's praises.
The fact that Kilgore ran an awful campaign probably had more to do with his loss than anything else. It's easier to simply blame the President, though.
Then why did the GOP gain a seat in the VA big 3. A fact that you wish not to answer, but rather like the media go with your predetermined knee jerk template.
Hmm, how about taking responsibility for your own actions for a change instead of blaming everyone else.

Do we know where all the King County, Wa. voting machines are?
Virginny elected a dim governor in 2001... when Bush was at 75% approval. Guess it was his fault then too?
BTW, we GAINED two seats in Virginny, and retain control of the legislature. You really would be better off focusing hate against those that want to destroy YOU!
LLS
Why is he complaining, if he won?
My only question would be:
Is Bush's popularity, or lack thereof, the reason they also lost the Governor's seat four years ago?
Right. . .
. . .the Dems are as gracious when they win as they are in defeat.
This is the perception and suspicion that will become reality until Bush &Co. go on the offensive. When you stand around and let someone call you "liar" and malign your character, you risk losing credibility and popularity. You can't lend much moral support when you allow yourself to be labeled in this manner.
I guess in 2001 Bush sank the GOP nominee in Virginia when he had an 85% approval rating?
Not sure where you, Oh Phantom come from. Here in Virginia, State GOP has been running the legislature for a long time, raising taxes and diverting funds. Bush's wild spending spree didn't do much to help the GOP's image out here. The GOP still does hold the VA legislature.
Some people, when they mistrust both parties, make 'watchdog' choices. They want one party to check the other and hope that through all the fighting, scrapping, etc. that corruption will be ferreted out. To put it simply, Virginia voters are baffled right now. They can't tell a conservative from a leftist.
AG is still undecided. It's so close that there will be an automatic recount. I'm praying for McDonnell.
I agree that this race was Kilgore's to lose, and he threw it away with both hands. Even if every voter who cast a ballot for Russ Potts, or who had done a write-in, had gone for Kilgore, he still would have lost.
The RNC has already taken note of who ran his campaign. I don't expect them to have much of a future in politics.

That's an excellent question. FRegards....
I agree. Kilgore lost because of Kilgore.
