The issue isn't whether most californians think abortion should be legal. Only the most myopic can't see that clearly Californians have no problem with abortions being legal.
Even within that context, it was hard to imagine that more people than not think that a minor can get an abortion without her parents knowing it.
The fact that it is so close (indeed, that it is losing) is quite damning - abortion isn't on the ballot, parental notification is on the ballot: a fairly uncontroversial conservative value that Californians are rejecting.
Amazing. So this isn't such a bad night for the GOP, huh? :-)
Sorry for the confusion...I meant Santa Barbara.
Conservative Tulare in, more of conservative Kern than the state, all of heavily liberal San Mateo in. LA county will be decisive. None of it is in with today votes.
Yeah, Arnold's approval ratings were surprisingly good for a while...
Considering California's liberalness, 73 failing really isn't that surprising. Disappointing, yes, but not surprising.
Alameda has started trickling in. As expected, all failing.
They are all losing but 75, right now
Perhaps too big of a bite was taken at one time is my gut feel.
You can not turn a large ship around on a dime..

IMO those who coerce children into abortions should be required to register as sexual predators.

Great point of view.
Hey, with the vote at 29.9% the totals were as follows
73 1,383,000 50.2 Yes 1,373,000 49.8 No
74 1,359,000 48.8 Yes 1,421,000 51.2 No
75 1,450,000 52.3 Yes 1,324,000 47.4 No
With 31.3 % in
73 1,371,000 49.8 Yes 1,376,000 50.2 No
74 1,349,000 48.7 Yes 1,421,000 51.3 No
75 1,437,000 52.0 Yes
If anyone can bring back the 29.9% vote screen back you will see what I'm talking about
One thing's for sure; it wasn't Hispanics that voted down 73.
Yes, but its been losing ground all night. In other words, the 'bad' kind of momentum for us!
Less populated (and thus more Republican) precincts reported in first. That's also part of why they call Dem victories much faster than they call GOP ones. It's over... and these measures were all common sense ones that everyone to the right of Boxer should have supported. SICK, SICK, SICK
Once again, the polls in Cal. got it wrong.
We need new school to educated Mexico's children.
"Just about all of SF is in (just 9 precincts outstanding"
San Franciso Co. is nothing look at how many polling locations, it's Alameda where there is a huge lib population. Most of that isn't counted. I don't see anything passing when it's over
Actually Yaelle, he didn't do as much as you might think.
While the unions were pummeling him for the last six months, he was relatively mute. He's not really a politician, and I think his people let him down. You simply cannot let others trash you for months, then expect to pull it out in only a few days.
Scwarzenegger will take heat for these losses, but the state is the one that is going to take it in the shorts. This is NOT good.
