A vote for Kilgore TODAY'S EDITORIAL When Virginians go to the polls today to select the commonwealth's next governor, they will cast one of their most important votes in recent memory -- one that could determine the direction of their state for many years to come. The race between Republican Jerry Kilgore, a former attorney general and public safety secretary, and Democratic Lt. Gov. Tim Kaine gives voters a clear choice between a liberal and a conservative -- although one would hardly know it from Mr. Kaine's remarkably successful efforts to blur the differences between the candidates. Mr. Kilgore is a conservative who combines many of the positive qualities that enabled Sen. George Allen,

They'll stop when enough people make it a policy to keep score and vote against the candidate who committed this gross incivility the most frequently.

I voted early this morning (just after 6 a.m.) here in Democrat-occupied (Northern) Virginia. Hoping for enough votes for Kilgore in real Virignia to cancel all the liberals up here. Kaine is just another liberal Catholic-in-Name-Only Democrat like that Mr. Theresa Heinz-Kerry carpetbagger.

There was a pretty good line at 6:15am when I arrived at my polling place at Hungary Creek (Western Henrico).

This is our first election with the new electronic voting machines. I do wish those things would give a paper receipt, but they were very easy to use. Several others made the same comment as the left, making us kind of a Bizarro South Florida.

I AGREE! GO NOW! DON'T WAIT! We can't take anything for granted. Vote for Kilgore, Bolling and McDonnell!

Count two for Jerry Kilgore, Bill Bolling and Bob McDonnell in Stafford County. It'll be three as soon as my 18-year-old son (voting for the first time) casts his ballot this afternoon.

It felt so good to vote in person. It was our first time in twenty years [I just retired from the active duty Air Force].

Dear xxxx,

I hope you're as excited as I am that today is Election Day! Polls are open from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. so please get out and vote today.

Besides reminding you to get out and vote today, I wanted to let you know about this exciting video of last night's final get-out-the-vote rally with President Bush. What an honor to have the President of the United States supporting my candidacy mere hours before the polls open!

I also wanted to take a moment to highlight a few quotes from the President's speech last night:

"I want to thank you all for coming out tonight. I remember what it's like to be right there on election eve. This man has worked his heart out. He has traveled the great Commonwealth of Virginia talking common sense to the voters. And now it's your time. He's counting on you to get out and turn out the vote, and deliver a great victory on behalf of all people of Virginia by putting him in the governor's chair."

"You need to go out and find that undecided person. You need to find our fellow Republicans and those discerning Democrats who know a good man when they see one. Keep working hard. Turn out that vote, and you'll be proud of the next governor of Virginia, Jerry Kilgore."

My friends, I am humbled and honored by the President's words, and I hope you'll take the President's message to heart. Please take a moment to forward this email along to five friends and include a personal message reminding them to vote today.

Please don't delay getting to the polls to vote! Every vote counts, so please vote early to avoid missing the 7 p.m. deadline. Especially since traffic can be so unpredictable and burdensome, it is important that you vote as soon as possible (fortunately in just a few hours we will have a Governor-elect who will work hard to solve this traffic mess!)

Crossing fingers, friend. A lot of panic and gloom right now with 40% of the precincts in. I just refuse to believe Kilgore will lose. Although, my aunt told me she didn't hear any ads, because she doesn't listen to radio. So my viewpoint was pretty limited. FRegards....

Well, we can learn from this. In hindsight, did Kilgore even offer a tax cut? I don't recall hearing about one in all the radio ads I heard. When that other guy, er, name slips me [coffee!] promised to eliminate the car tax, he ran away with it.

I guess I have a lot to learn about polls. And, I guess an "r" next to someone's name isn't enough. They need to walk the walk. In hindsight, we've had "r"s in charge of the legislature for years, wasting money, raising taxes, etc. They've lost peoples' respect, I guess. Kilgore believes in a lot of issues I believe in. But without tax relief, without promises to cut spending [probably hard to do based on the GOP's history in this state], he didn't rally enough voters.
