A vote for Kilgore
Washington Times Op-Ed ^ | November 8, 2005

A vote for Kilgore TODAY'S EDITORIAL When Virginians go to the polls today to select the commonwealth's next governor, they will cast one of their most important votes in recent memory -- one that could determine the direction of their state for many years to come. The race between Republican Jerry Kilgore, a former attorney general and public safety secretary, and Democratic Lt. Gov. Tim Kaine gives voters a clear choice between a liberal and a conservative -- although one would hardly know it from Mr. Kaine's remarkably successful efforts to blur the differences between the candidates. Mr. Kilgore is a conservative who combines many of the positive qualities that enabled Sen. George Allen,

I voted at 6:30 this morning. I was surprised there was actually a line at that time. Looks like turnout is going to be pretty big.

Where are you at? I'll be voting at c. 1800 today. I live in Den of Dem Iniquity. I hope I'm the only person in line when I go. It's the only way the GOP will ever win anything in Alexandria.

Private March reporting, Ma'am! What an exciting election! The ad campaigns, I've never heard a more lively campaign in my life! Kilgore's campaign manager should never be taken lightly, no matter how it goes down today. But Truth is, I'm optimistic. I think we're going to do at least 5% better today than the polls show.

That's my prediction. But it's just a hunch. So no one miss out on voting if at all possible.

FRegards....

I'm down in Charlottesville. There are Kaine signs all over the place down here but that's not a surprise because the city always votes dim. The county, on the other hand seems to always comes through republican.

My wife and I are going to vote soon. Our college daughter has already voted absentee. Our two teenage sons and I canvassed door to door Saturday afternoon. We saw great enthusiasm in the campaign. We got a chance to talk with Kilgore briefly last week and he was very upbeat, saw all the pieces falling into place. I think its going to be another disappointing evening for the MSM and the DNC.

I am feeling slightly optimistic. Kaine's crowd seems overly optimistic, much like the Kerry crowd last year - and we all know what happened then.

Saw Bush with Kilgore last night in a clip on CNN - of course Wolf Blitzer commented that Kilgore didn't show up at Bush's VA appearance last week implying a snub.

Good luck Virginians!

The media will turn this election into a "vote of non-confidence" on Bush if Kilgore loses.

Or they will bury the story if he wins.

GOTV!

I'm factoring:
1. Local polls are lower-cost than national. Cheap polls don't factor in 'likely voters' as well.

2. Also, it's an odd-year. Not as 'important' as a presidential or senate race to some of our fair weathered friends.

3. I'm really impressed with Kilgore's campaign. He went for the juggular and is shamelessly right wing. It's always been my belief that street fighting is more effective for conservatives than staying 'above the fray'. It energizes your base. It gets peoples' attention. And people are more right wing than they realize. I'm skeptical that the polls are showing such a close race.

4. Polls veer left 4 times out of 5, as a rule.

Good weather is the only thing going for Kaine, but the other four factors will most likely outweigh it. Albeit, he had some pretty sharp attack ads. I could see through them, but can the average voter? I want to believe in my fellow Virginians. We are in the New Media Age. All my instincts say we will shock them.

But, we MUST VOTE. I hope no one takes too much heart from what I'm writing here. FRegards....

I voted at 6:45 this morning in Loudon county and was 1 of about 3 people there at the time. I hope they all plan on voting this afternoon. I just moved to Loudon recently so I don't know the demographics, but it appears on the surface to lean more conservative.

I voted for Kilgore, but the damn robocalls have got to stop! I found myself getting madder and madder at the party every time I got one of those blasted calls.

Virginians,

GO NOW AND VOTE FOR KILGORE. THIS IS VITAL. DO NOT HESITATE. TELL YOUR FRIENDS. YOU CANNOT LET THE GREAT COMMONWEALTH SUFFER RAT RULE FOR ANOTHER FOUR YEARS.

ONCE AGAIN, GO VOTE FOR KILGORE. THIS IS NOT A DRILL.

THANKS!

(sorry for the all caps but this is serious)

I found myself getting madder and madder at the party every time I got one of those blasted calls.

They do it because it is the only way to get those busy working people-- who don't even know it's election day--out to vote. The Dems do it, too. If the Republicans stop making the calls, the turnout will drop drastically and they will lose.

Eventually, they will get sophisticated enough to allow people to "opt out" of reminder calls.

I believe Kilgore will win with 55% of the votes. (A little birdie told me that Dim turnout is already lower in the inner city polling places than in the suburbia.)

Polls were nearly empty in Fluvanna this AM (around 7:45). I walked in, voted, and was out in 5 minutes.

"The Lake" growth concerns me for this county. Most of the residents are Northeners that migrated here, and they now make up a very large portion of the population. They've already hijacked the local County Government. One example is the Personal Property tax break for seniors. There is a provision where seniors in the county on a fixed income can petition to have their rate lowered. One requirement is that they must have less than 2 acres of property. Guess what... to build a house in this county, you are required to have at least 2 or more acres of land... except in the lake of course.

I was at the polling place at 5:59 am this morning. The turn out was medium to heavy already, 20-30 voters in liberal Reston, VA. All three of us in our household voted for Kilgore. I really hope that he wins. It will be disaster for Virginia for years to come otherwise.
