Official Election Day 2005 Watch [Live Thread]
Shameless Vanity Post | November 8, 2005 | BillyBoy

Posted on 11/07/2005 11:46:41 PM PST by BillyBoy

My Fellow FReepers,

As it now past midnight (well at least for those of us in Central Standard Time) and I did a general search and couldn't find a single thread dedicated to election 2005, I have taken the liberty of creating one.

THIS is the place to post all your updates and discussions on '05 races around the country. From the Boston Mayoral Race to the fight for Virginia Attorney General, keep the adrenaline flowing here.

Will the GOP make a midterm gubernatorial comeback after suffering through the 2001 "mistakes" of McGreeley and Mark Warner? Will Ahnuld, the CA Dummycrats, or independent minded conservatives emerge triumph in California's latest (but not greatest!) "special election"? Will the liberal incumbent crush his equally liberal challenger in New York? And do conservatives even care?

Let's get the discussion rolling folks. You heard it here first!

I'd like to say something like great minds think alike, but any idiot could see that Kilgore had horrible campaign advice.

Some of it is an anti Bush vote. It will take its toll of course in California too. The abortion notification initiative has the best chance (think Hispanics), and curiously, the union dues ones has the next best chance. I suspect however, that it will be a clean liberal sweep, except for the obscure energy one, with the drug ones up in the air, because the one with the most votes wins, so it is socialists versus drug companies on that one. But a prediction without any votes, and the polls over the map, isn't really a prediction. It is more of a seance call. But we will have the absentee count in about 1.5-1.75 hours (the polls close in 1.25 hours), and that will give us a reading of what is in the hunt in California, and what isn't. Subtract about 5% the bad maybe.

The redoing of the district lines appears to be failing in Ohio, so the Dems won't be getting the 2-4 House seats they hoped for there in 2006 (or 2008, I am not sure when it was going to kick in).

That is really good news. Ohio was a state I was worried about. Glad to hear the results there, be assured the Democrats are not. :-)

You can count on Dims ignoring that result to hermetically seal themselves against unwelcome reality.

Issue 1 was marketed as a JOBS initiative -- no new taxes (of course, that's the promise). It was endorsed by the Ohio Republican Party. And while some Repubicans voiced concern, very few actively campaigned against it -- Issues 2-5 were the CRITICAL NO VOTES!!!

I'm sure there's a message lurking somewhere in your recent post, but for the life of me, I can't pick it out.
Maybe you're just too smart for me.

I can think of another explanation, but I'll save it.

Yeah, Scott is a wuss. He's no Ari Fleischer.

Notice how fast the MSM quit interviews Gen. Honore after he called them what they are...stupid?

she will choose Richardson as VP,

Sorry, but I seriously doubt Mrs. Clinton is going to be choosing anyone as VP.

Stand slightly corrected. ;-) Nevertheless, the top race is what sells headlines but it does fall back to what RKBA Democrat stated. Run a competant conservative campaign, helpful more so if the person is really conservative, and you win in Virginia. The lesson the Republicans should, I hope, learn from this is that pursuing the "moderates" is a losing strategy. If they want to win, they need to make conservatives happy. They need to run optimistic conservative campaigns, they need to govern conservatively, and they need to defend conservatism when it is challenged. Voters will choose the real deal over the fake, IF given the option.

one issue not used against Corzine - how he made his money. Goldman Sachs was the biggest "pump and dump" operator during the tech stock boom, making billions as small investors and pensioners poured their savings in, and telling them to "hold" as the insiders cashed out and people like Corzine pocketed 9 figures. He was untouched on that issue, it would have been a good issue to flip the Dems on - use the class warfare argument against him.

He ran against Mike Dukakis the ACLU card carrying liberal, that should explain that.

And Kerry was LT Gov under Dukakis. Why did Kerry do better than Dukakis against Bush 43?

Whatever. I'm not going to spar with you. Your "I've been here longer than you" post is silly and proves nothing. Based on your posts in this thread I read, you are a bit out of place here and you don't seem to be too up to date on current events the past week. And the fact you place so much faith and import on liberal media polls of Bush's populatiry, further gave me reason to wonder about you. If you're conservative, fine. But your posts sure don't reflect that. Go re-read them. I don't care. I'm not hear to waste my time with someone who is wanting to have an "I'm more conservative then you cause I've been here" longer contest".

You're the third person who's started crap with me and pulled the "i've been here longer than you" card, and talks about how conservative you are, and ya know what? The other two times I ended up getting messages from several users regarding those other two members saying basically "Hey, about that member you argued with that said they were really conservative. Well. Not so much. Blow them off. Not worth your time". Am I going to get messages like that from users about you? 8)

I didn't predict he would win either. He knows numbers though. Remember he made money the old fashioned way; he bilked widows and orphans out of their life savings as President or CEO of Goldman/Sachs.

Well, grass roots yes. They'll shrug it off not fully understanding the implications. National Dems no. They needed those amendments to pass startegically, they are well aware this was a big setback in Ohio. It means they are still dependant on running a good campaign with a good candidate.

Being a conservative doesn't mean you can't recognize when things aren't going well with the GOP.

Psssst...things aren't going well with the GOP.

indeed, had Corzine been a republican candidate - this would have been the #1 theme against him. as a Dem, he got a total pass on it.
