French police made 395 arrests last night as riots intensified for the 11th consecutive night, with violence and fire engulfing towns from the North to the Mediterranean.
In the impoverished suburbs and satellite towns around Paris, where the unrest began on October 27, churches, schools and warehouses were set alight. At least 1,408 vehicles were destroyed, many more than on previous nights, and the random attacks have spread into the heart of the city.
In Grigny, south of the capital, a gang of around 200 youths are reported to have lured police into a housing estate before opening fire with hunting rifles. At least 30 officers were injured, two seriously with lead pellets in the legs and neck.
Riots broke out in beacons of disaffection across the country from Lille, on the border with Belgium, to Montpellier on the Mediterranean coast. In Toulouse, police used tear gas to disperse a mob. Cars were set alight on the streets of Nantes, Orleans, Rennes and Rouen, and youths in St Etienne forced passengers off a bus before burning it. Churches were set ablaze in northern Lens and southern Sete.

In Strasbourg, youths stole a car and rammed it into a housing project, setting the vehicle and the building on fire. "Well stop when Sarkozy steps down," the defiant 17-year-old driver told an Associated Press reporter.
Police are calling for a night-time curfew in affected areas and some senior officers have demanded that troops are brought on to the streets.
Michel Gaudin, France's most senior police officer, said today: "We are witnessing a sort of shock wave that is spreading across the country."

I heard that. So then this is another woman? What great respect those muslims have for women. Excuse me while I go puke.
You're right. Just go and read the foxnews, com article entitled "Paris in Flames". But have a barf bag ready.
Such a rifle would not be allowed in California.
Freepers, what might be the best militia rifle compliant with California's Assault Weapons Ban?
It's a good thing that the FReepers at least have a clue. At least there will be somebody around to know what's going on and defend this country is it happens here.
Time to deport them to Morocco and Northern Africa. Mooslim curse coming to the town near you. This battle is being fought all over the globe. Second coming of the Crusades.
>> You must be the best armed FReeper around! <<
Not by a long shot RR. Pardon the pun. LOL
>> I love how threads like this end up with a discussion of the best type of firearms to own!! <<
LOL! Ain't FR great!
Loved the pun.
And darned well executed. If I were a rioter and were unmanaged, I would be turning over trashcans, spray painting my name (Killroy was here), throwing eggs at local politicians, leaving burning bags of dog poo on front porches, sending pizza's to random addresses, and rolling neighborhoods with TP...
These rioters are on message and plan.
"France has a history of strikes and marches, people in the streets, so after a while, they get accustomed to it and think it'll blow over the same way it always has. Unfortunately, this time Muslims are rioting, and they have an agenda that means the end of France, the end of Europe, and with easy travel in the EU, no papers, outside terrorists can come in by train. Well, they'll be orchestrating everything over the internet or by cell phone, anyway. France should have smashed this fast and hard, and now it's too late."
No, my friend, it is not too late.
These riots were the result of exclusion. That is what I believe and what the government believes.
But let us suppose that you are correct. Let us suppose that this is, indeed, the beginning of a truly Muslim insurrection.
Then what?
Then some smallish percentage (do not expect women, small children or old people of either sex to be rioting) of at most 5 million people, in a country of 62.5 million, will be engaged in - as so many here have predicted - an outright war with the 57.5 million people all around them.
If there truly is a war, then the outcome is not in doubt. France will win it.
It is to be hoped that it does not come to that, and I doubt it will.
Yes it is! I love this site, though it can be distracting from school work.
Keeps me sane from my Marxist officemates!!!
It was the same last night, no news during the evening hours east coast time, then I wake up this morning to find the violence and damage had escalated from Saturday night.
"If somebody started a company in one of the "estates" areas, and hired the mohammeds, and fired the ones that didn't work out, what labor inspector would dare to show up in a no-go area to make an issue of it?"
This is called the black market.
All European countries have economies considerably larger than the official statistics because the black market provides the goods and services which over-regulation make uneconomical at the margins. Italy probably has the largest economy in Europe, for the black market there is probably fully 100% the size of the legal market.
In France, especially in the banlieux, there is a thriving black market. But, of course, there are limits on what a black market can do for someone. Money cannot be put into the regular, secure banking system or investment system, as it will be detected. Money also cannot be put into registered assets such as real estate. One is at risk for losing anything fixed when one indulges in the black market.
"And handicapped female passengers. They lit her up too, remember?"
It is all highly disgusting. However, this was one incident in 11 nights of fires and unrest. One cannot downplay her suffering or the death of the man from his injuries, and yet one must acknowledge that the lack of fatalities tells us that there remains a social governor limiting the lengths to which these youths will go.
Were this really a Muslim jihad, there would be heavy fatalities.
As it is, Renault and Peugeot can expect to make crisp winter season sales.
Thx Dane. Probably same tonight. Looks like things aren't slowing down.
So just how socialist is France? You can't just start a business when and where you want? Are there no private companies?
