ACHERES, France Riots that started in Paris' lower-class suburbs and resulted in 250 arrests of predominantly Muslim youths Saturday moved into the capital of France early Sunday morning.
By 1 a.m., a spokesman for the national police reported 13 vehicles torched in the capital, and 607 vehicles burnt overall during the 10th straight night of rioting. Totals are expected to rise by morning.

The violence originally concentrated in neighborhoods northeast of Paris with large immigrant populations is forcing France (search) to confront anger long-simmering in its suburbs, where many Africans and their French-born children live on society's margins, struggling with unemployment, poor housing, racial discrimination, crime and a lack of opportunity.
Youths armed with gasoline bombs lit vehicles, a nursery school and other targets on fire as they made their way through higher-class towns and to the capital.

In quiet Acheres, on the edge of the St. Germain forest west of the capital, arsonists burned a nursery school, where part of the roof caved in, and about a dozen cars in four attacks over an hour that the mayor said seemed "perfectly organized."
Children's photos clung to the blackened walls, and melted plastic toys littered the floor. Residents gathered at the school gate demanded that the army be deployed or suggested that citizens band together to protect their neighborhoods.
Mayor Alain Outreman (search) tried to cool tempers.
"We are not going to start militias," he said. "You would have to be everywhere."
In one particularly malevolent attack, youths in the eastern Paris suburb of Meaux (search) prevented paramedics from evacuating a sick person from a housing project. They pelted rescuers with rocks, then torched the awaiting ambulance, an Interior Ministry official said.

Firstly, both stem from the same clash of civilizations.
Secondly, the Israelis would disagree with you about whether the distinction matters in all cases.
We don't have to have slums - we just have to have a large group of them. I dunno bout where you are, but Texas has a very large population of them.
I agree, they will let it play out and "run its course" - and the political spin to blame the USA is coming.
New car total for tonight: over 800. Here's the latest article on the rest of the damage.

They can blame all they want but Fema better not send credit cards. I'm not in the mood to pay for cleaning their mess up.
"We don't have to have slums - we just have to have a large group of them. I dunno bout where you are, but Texas has a very large population of them."
Also a large number in Dearborn, Michigan. That is where Henry Ford had a newspaper that published a series of anti-Jewish articles in the twenties. Wonder if that is why so many "youths" were attracted to the area.
"I kind of agree, since they have not coordinated suicide attacks in France and Germany. Yet."
"Yet" is the key word here. These guys conducting this violence are terrorists. Maybe not in the normal text that we see terrorists, but they are terrorists just the same. These terrorists are creating fear and literally terrorizing the streets of one of the world's largest cities.
My concern is watching this thing spread like a disease night after night. This is growing- not getting smaller. The first few nights the rioting was in a small suburb north of Paris, now this is going on in the streets of Paris.
didn't think of the jails. good point
We ARE the militia.
Sometimes we act as the militia digging our neighbors car out a snowbank, sometimes we act as the militia giving a stranger CPR and sometimes we act as the militia, armed with our personal weapons, standing shoulder to shoulder while rioters approach.
It is a concept that is uniquely American. The french people may need to learn to act in their own self interest, since their government will not.
"He's probably hiding under the bed, wetting his pants."
No probably about it. On the other hand, we here in America continue our spirited debate on whether gays should marry and prance in front of machete wielding terrorists and mad bombers.
The French have some room to laugh at us too.
It's easy to shoot somebody that's shooting at you, but what about the person that refuses to fight, but will make it their mission in life to ruin your life once the the danger has passed?
Wait until this starts to hit the economy. The elites will pressure Chirac to appease the Muslims but the regular Frenchmen will flock to Le Pen.
LOL!
You have any doubts?
The whole 'beheading' thing did it for me.
Speaking of "beheading," it's time the French broke out the "National Razor."
This is France's infitada, quite obviously.
