Paris/France burns, Live thread (night #10)

Posted on 11/05/2005 9:39:59 AM PST by Dane

It is now getting dark in Paris and in all of France(appx. 6:40 PM Paris Time), and if there are any French FR lurkers(lurquers), this may be the thread to post your reports about any further violence.

It seems the French govt. is impotent in it's response to what seems are jihadist thugs and it seems the American media has put a news blackout filter to what is really happening, so as not to embarass their heroes, Chirac et al.

So any news reports or personal reports from what happens tonight are welcome, and don't worry about broken English, reports in French are welcome also, I have no doubt someone can translate.

I really dread putting up a live thread about such a matter, but it seems that the American MSM is following French govt. orders to play down to what it seems is an insurrection.

"The Muslims are men."

I would question that. I think they are hit and run cowards and would shrink into a hole if it came to one-on-one combat. They hide behind babies and women and only work their violence in mobs or when they outnumber a perceived enemy 20 to 1.

the ones doing the bashing are a bunch of communist hoodlums and not the average citizen on the street

Thank you for your report Gatun. I am happy to hear it. Also, please know it is a bunch of communists doing the same in this country.

Southack posted a reply noting that DeGaulle may have done something like this to stay in power. I would put nothing past ChirIraq to stay in power. If he steps down, he might end up in Iraq as the star in a War Crimes Trial.

The way the french are, they should be equally concerned if their shorts are clean.

This report is from Radio Netherlands posted today at 2:34 pm eastern:

French government vows not to cave in to rioters

The French interior minister Nicolas Sarkozy says the government will not cave in to rioters in the capital's depressed suburbs. Speaking after an emergency cabinet meeting, Mr Sarkozy warned that the rioters face long prison sentences if they continue their arson attacks.

The minister said violence is not a solution to the problems in those areas. He also said that the government would do everything not to worsen the situation. Mr Sarkozy had been accused of stoking passions by calling rioters "scum". [Mon Dieu!]

Rioting continued in the French capital last night, and also spread to other French cities. On the ninth consecutive night of unrest, 900 cars were set alight. Police made more than 250 arrests.

Thanks for the report from Paris media. Can anyone IMAGINE Giuliani reacting to rioters in this way?

It has been my experience in life that nothing like this happens by accident. It is planned and coordinated although the French are denying it.

"But they sure make a mean pinot noir."

That may be true; however, if they can't protect their own country, there will eventually be no more mean pinot noir.

Seems to me all this muslim rioting and destruction in france SURE helps the Bush administration policy against terrorism and extremist islamists, and hurts liberal democrat opposition to the Bush administrations stand on those things. Clearly this is why the media hasn't reported this anymore than they've had to. This all sure helps the Bush policy and the stand against islam. Obviously why the msm hates to talk about it.

"For their part, the police also have modified their approach to the situation: a helicopter provided with a projector-camera was even dispatched on the spot."

The French have finally begun to shoot!!!! with cameras

My understanding is that these areas were pretty much lawless before the riots. I think the police crackdown proposed by the Interior Minister stepped on the gangs toes, and that it was gangs, made up of Muslims, that started these riots.

I agree with you 100 percent. I get really tired of the French bashing here, which has little basis in history. The nonsense about cowardice ignores the millions of Frenchmen who took taxis, bicycles to get to the German front in World War One, the millions who died at that front, and the thousands of disfigured who lived out their lives in small isolated villages in southern France. It also ignores the crucial support the French gave us in our Revolution, without which we'd be bowing to Charles and Camilla. I've been to France numerous times on business and vacation and I've never encountered anything but pleasant, decent, helpful people EXCEPT in the areas that are now being beset by rioting.

The police in the rioting cities of Frogland should use the following critters to restore piece. Train them to smell, track down and eat Jihadists.

"Mr Sarkozy warned that the rioters face long prison sentences if they continue their arson attacks."

What are "long prison sentences" according to Sarkozy? 12 to 18 months, probably.

"He also said that the government would do everything not to worsen the situation."

Sometimes you have to make the situation temporarily worse in order for it to become better in the long-run. War 101.

AULNAY-SOUS-BOIS, France (Reuters) - With every night that France's rundown suburbs burn, officials grow increasingly convinced that drug traffickers and Islamist militants are using frustrated youths to challenge law and order here.

Many people who watch their cars, shops and schools go up in flames, however, are not buying it. They blame unemployment, racial prejudice and widespread youth boredom for the outbursts.

France is in denial.

I have to ask. Do Monsieur Kerry, Senator's Reid, Kennedy, Levin, Clinton, Biden, Durbin, and the rest of these Democrats living in denial, fully understand the point that rioting in and around Paris is due to French failure to confront terrorism and fight it on Mid Eastern soil?

I wonder what the above would say about Bush if these riots spilled over to here and we met the rioters with a military response in our own cities. Would Kerry, Senator's Reid, Kennedy, Levin, Clinton, Biden, Durbin, and the rest of these Democrats blame Bush for using the military in response?

"Some residents, gathered at the school gate, demanded that the army be deployed, or suggested that citizens band together to protect their neighborhoods. Mayor Alain Outreman tried to cool tempers.
"We are not going to start militias," he said. "You would have to be everywhere."

Why do I have the feeling the present French government is not going to last long?
