Can you support the troops and not the war?

Here's the analogy I use when I hear the BS argument about supporting the troops but not the war:

You're a parent and your kid is a star on the HS football team. You love your son, feed him, clothe him, give him proper medical care. On the other hand you hate his football coach because of personality conflicts. The football team makes it to the state championship, but you're going to root for the opposing team and you're going to pull your kid out at halftime to undermine the coach's strategy to win, all because you don't like the coach.

Do you think you're supporting your son?

THIS TROOP says, NO! You don't have to like Bush, you don't have to like this war (or any war), but now that we're in it, you cannot support the troops without hoping, praying, and doing everything you can to help them win it. Bringing them home before the job is complete or denigrating the job itself is not support because it helps our enemies. It's that simple.

There is another version for those who are anti-war-any-war (as opposed to the anti-Bush-at-all-costs crowd) that replaces hatred for the coach with dislike for the game of football because it's too violent. Either way, not hoping your kid's team wins is disloyal and definitely not supporting him.

This post inspired by discussion on Tony Snow's radio show this morning when a caller reported his conversation with Sen. Kennedy's office in which they failed to answer "Yes" or "No" when asked if they want our side to win in Iraq now that we're there.

Didn't a caller the previous day say he called Boxer and Feinstein too and their staffs said "they had no position" (On whether they were for us winning the war.)

"Can you support the troops and not the war?"

Here is another analogy to answer them with.

Can you support your a$$ without my foot?

It was the same guy. Tony asked him to try some more and call him back today.

If you don't support the war effort, you encourage our enemies and provide them with hope that sustains them to continue the war effort. That gets our troops killed.

Yes. An honorable man like Abraham Lincoln voted against authorizing the Mexican War but for the budget appropriations for the troops. Kerry was the exact reverse. Lincoln also didn't indulge in anti-American or anti-troop rhetoric and sliming that Kerry did.

Indeed, ALWAYS RIGHT ON!' Great thoughts!

I always wondered if it is possible to support the war, but not the troops! Haha! ;-)

I'm glad you asked that question.

I supported the troops in KosovO, but there was no way I wanted the Islamofacist KLA to win, so I was against the war. I wanted none of our troops to be injured or harmed and I didn't want them to succeed in their mission.
