The problem is not with doctors who did not monitor the problem, it is with patients who do not tell their doctors about side effects or adverse reactions from a drug.

Just answer the question: what was his dossage? Vioxx was WELL documented to have a problem at large dossages, my wife was on it I've read the documentation, was he over the line or wasn't he. The juries should be smart enough to see through ALL the cases because ALL the cases are bunk, the warnings were there, if the person's doctor didn't pay enough attention then the person (or their survivors) should sue the doctor not the drug manufacturer.

I suppose anything is possible but 85% of our cases are people under the age of 55, try explaining all these people having strokes while they all were on Vioxx. 30% of our case are -or had their stroke/heart attack- in their 40's. Is this typical? I submit all these people had one thing in common the misfortune of taking Vioxx.

This leaves just the doctors who prescribed the medications as liable. Still a lawsuit target, just not so deep pockets.

I work in the software industry, we average having a heart attack by 38. Young people have heart attacks too.

I am not going to 'bleed' this persons file on a thread or anywhere else. Our cases will be well documented, we are well known -hopefully respected- (Ford Pinto as a hint). Depending on settlements some may choose to keep their names annonymous. What is unsettling is this blind allegiance to a drug company, simply because it is the 'conservative way' to be.

I submit all these people had one thing in common the misfortune of taking Vioxx.

And I submit they had one more commonality as well - they heard they could make a fortune by filing a case against Vioxx. Before ANY Cox-2's came on the market there were heart attacks and strokes in the population under 55 all the time. Perhaps it wasn't the most common cause of death in that age group, but it wasn't that far down the list. I worked at a university hospital in the 70s and we had lots of patients under 55 with assorted cardiovascular and cerebrovascular conditions.

I now do transcription, and probably 15% of the notes I type are patients in that younger age group who have assorted vascular disorders, high lipids, high blood pressure, etc., etc., none of whom have been "lucky" enough to be able to blame Vioxx. With 270 million or so population, I don't doubt your find a lot of people who want to jump on the sue-Vioxx bandwagon.

"The problem is not with doctors who did not monitor the problem, it is with patients who do not tell their doctors about side effects or adverse reactions from a drug."

Perhaps, but when my doctor had me taking a cholesterol-lowering drug, I reported side effects of muscle pain, etc. and he said "that's not from the drug" and wanted me to continue. I stopped taking them on my own, against his wishes, with absolutely no change in my cholesterol levels! A year or two later, patients were dying from these statin drugs. Now they take the side effect reports more seriously.

Yeah, he gave a courthouse step interview after the trail. I feel sorry for him that he's poorly but he has a choice to be an ass or not and his claptrap about Vioxx being a "poison pill" gave me a heart attack. Think I have a case?

I guess working for the postal service well qualifies one to make such judgements.

What a freaking dolt. He should have his pension taken to pay for for bringing such a lame action.

There's no blind allegiance here to anything but the FACTS. The FACTS are that the risks of Vioxx were well documented by Vioxx and the FDA, and should have been well known by prescribing doctors and patients that read the documentation should have recognized the warning signs and informed their doctor that they were having a reaction. All drugs can be dangerous, people who don't know what they're sticking in their mouth and don't pay attention to their bodies reaction are putting themselves at risk. And the fact that you need to start insulting people just shows how much even you know the facts aren't on your side.

There isn't one Prescription drug out there that doesn't carry a risk.

Yep. And to put a finer point on it—LIVING carries a risk.

Sometimes I wonder why the drug companies even bother to bring new drugs to market. All they ever get is multi-billion dollar lawsuits.

Multi Billion dollar profits?

The study which caused Merck to pull Vioxx only indicated a 7.5% increase in heart attacks. So you are going to tell me that vioxx is the main cause of the heart attack in everyone who had a heart attack while taking vioxx. Somehow your facts dont add up.

Having followed this subject closely, Merck (Arcoxia)and Novartis (Prexige) have 2nd generaion Cox-2 drugs waiting approval. Additional study results are due next year. They are already using them in Europe and South America.

My HMO doctors will not even talk to me about using Celebrex.

Do you have the "Knights of NI!" as well???

ARTHUR: O Knights of Ni, we have brought you your shrubbery. May we go now?
HEAD KNIGHT: It is a good shrubbery. I like the laurels particularly,... but there is one small problem.
ARTHUR: What is that?
HEAD KNIGHT: We are now... no longer the Knights Who Say 'Ni'.
KNIGHTS OF NI: Ni! Shh!
HEAD KNIGHT: Shh! We are now the Knights Who Say 'Ecky- ecky- ecky- ecky- pikang- zoop- boing- goodem- zoo- owli- zhiv'.
RANDOM: Ni!
HEAD KNIGHT: Therefore, we must give you a test.
ARTHUR: What is this test, O Knights of-- knights who till recently said 'ni'?
HEAD KNIGHT: Firstly, you must find... another shrubbery!
[dramatic chord]
ARTHUR: Not another shrubbery!
RANDOM: Ni!
HEAD KNIGHT: Then, when you have found the shrubbery, you must place it here beside this shrubbery, only slightly higher so you get the two-level effect with a little path running down the middle.
KNIGHTS OF NI: A path! A path! A path! Ni! Shh! Ni! Ni! Ni! Shh! Shh!...
HEAD KNIGHT: Then, when you have found the shrubbery, you must cut down the mightiest tree in the forest... with... a herring!
[dramatic chord]
KNIGHTS OF NI: A herring!
ARTHUR: We shall do no such thing!
HEAD KNIGHT: Oh, please!

The entire script is available at: http://www.mwscomp.com/movies/grail/grail.htm along with a lot more Holy Grail stuff.
