ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. (AP) -- In a major victory for Merck & Co., a jury has found the drugmaker properly warned consumers about Vioxx risks. The finding means Merck will not be held liable for the 2001 heart attack suffered by a man taking the painkiller.

There isn't one Prescription drug out there that doesn't carry a risk.

The Jury didn't have the proof that Vioxx alone caused the man's heart attack. Good for them.

This is great news! Those anti-inflammatories need to be back on the market and the lawyers who brought this suit need to have their assets seized.

Unfortunately this was the weakest of the cases so far. The guy had his heart attack less than 2 months of taking the drug, its hard to find fault other than with the user on this one.

Great news for Merck and other pharmaceutical firms as well ... my portfolio, which has drug related stocks well represented should finally see a strong upside.

Hurray for those suffering with arthritis. Hisses and boos to the lousy, greedy lawyers who chase every death as though it could have been prevented. Even Clinton's lovely Surgeon Gen. Elders stated, "We're probably all gonna die someday of sumthin."

Good for them.

I admit to being caught up in the hype until I read that more people die from aspirin than did from Vioxx.

I've been on the bad side watching all this, my wife has bad knees and I've been watching every drug that ever did anything for her get taken off the market. It's really been sad.

but rather instead, that greedy trial lawyers couldn't feed off of his corpse like jackals.

Humeston, now 60, had alleged his intermittent use of Vioxx over two months caused his heart attack four years ago.

I don't think he's a corpse quite yet.

CART MASTER: Bring out your dead! [clang]
CUSTOMER: Here's one.
CART MASTER: Ninepence.
DEAD PERSON: I'm not dead!
CART MASTER: 'Ere. He says he's not dead!
CUSTOMER: Yes, he is.
DEAD PERSON: I'm not!
CART MASTER: He isn't?
CUSTOMER: Well, he will be soon. He's very ill.
DEAD PERSON: I'm getting better!
CUSTOMER: No, you're not. You'll be stone dead in a moment.
CART MASTER: Oh, I can't take him like that. It's against regulations.

"maybe these anti-inflamatories will get re-introduced into the market."

Good, certain Personal Injury attorneys are going to need it today...

Completely agree. Vioxx is the only thing that worked for the occasional bouts of arthritis pain in my knees. I understand the risks and I don't need it all the time. I just want to walk.

How sweet for the people who got popped in the head with a stroke and spent the rest of their lives hooked up to box.

So, every person who has a heart attack can blame it on the pharmaceuticals they were taking at the time? I don't think so.

New poster, been lurking for years.I know many think this is a greedy grab by lawyers but I work with one of the 10 firms on the steering commitee on the vioxx and this is not a drug that is worth your support. I can't name names but one of the cases I personally have worked on is an 19 year old who had a heart attack after being on vioxx for 6 months. He was on vioxx due to back fusion surgery that made him 100% disabled. He is a non smoker with NO history of heart problems in his family.Mock many lawsuits but their are many like this one that simply can't be explained away.Legitimate cases should not be ignored.
