Sen. Harry Reid (D-Nev.), the Senate's minority leader, said on ABC's "This Week" today that Bush's nomination of Harriet MIers was not a mistake and he believes she could have done well in a nomination hearing. He urged the president not to be too quick to move to the right on a nomination and to steer toward the middle.

Sneator Reid's Mother says he was a mistake.
Senator Reid's Mother says he was a mistake.
They're desperate. They know they will lose a fight if the GOP actually deploys the heavy guns.
That's all I needed to hear!
Being a Democrat is a mistake. It's a heavy mistake to be on the wrong side of history.
Regards, Ivan
Well that confirms she was not the right choice when liberal Dingy Harry speaks well of her...
Who does Reid think he's fooling? Of if he sees himself as merely playing a role, can he possibly think these are the best arguments to make against the right?
He doesn't even have credibility among many Democrats. Last I read, the New Republic mentions him as little as possible.
Thanks, Harry, for confirming our suspicions that Miers would have been a disaster. If you supported her nomination, there is no way that she would have worked out for us.
Man, has anyone had a worse week than Harry Reid? First his SCOTUS favorite, Harriet Miers, withdrew, then he had to throw out all his talking points about Karl Rove being a criminal, President Bush lying the U.S. into war. etc. etc. I'm suprised the guy's head hasn't exploded yet.
We sure dodged the bullet on that one!
The President forgot to clear her name with punditocracy and especially Kristol, Krauthammer, Frum, Podorhetz and others. Once both National Review on Line and the Weekly Standard were opposed, Limbaugh, Coulter and and Will drove the stake into the heart of this nominee.
Only problem is no one proved anything about her except, as Reid pointed out, she was atypical in that she was both shy and modest--personal qualities seldom exhibited by the punditocracy.
I cannot believe how incredibly stupid Sen. Harry Reid is. I mean rock-hard stupid. Dehydrated-rock-hard stupid. Stupid so stupid that it goes way beyond the stupid we know into a whole different dimension of stupid. Harry Reid is trans-stupid stupid. Meta-stupid. Stupid collapsed on itself so far that even the neutrons have collapsed. Stupid gotten so dense that no intellect can escape. Singularity stupid. Blazing hot mid-day sun on Mercury stupid. He emits more stupid in one second than our entire galaxy emits in a year. Quasar stupid. He speaking has to be a troll. Nothing in our universe can really be this stupid. Perhaps this is some primordial fragment from the original big bang of stupid. Some pure essence of a stupid so uncontaminated by anything else as to be beyond the laws of physics that we know. I'm sorry. I can't go on. This is an epiphany of stupid for me. After this, you may not hear from me again for a while. I don't have enough strength left to deride his ignorant statements and half baked comments about unimportant trivia, or any of the rest of his drivel. Duh.
Harry is right but, being a Dim, for the wrong reasons.
Bush just pulled the biggest rope-a-dope of his Presidency. Conservatives are so fired up to get a "known conservative" on the SC bench after this that they will now wade through fire to see it done. The Dem/libs have shot themselves in the foot by decrying Miers withdrawal as "giving in to the extreme right-wing." Why? Because they have given their tacit approval to Miers in their outrage and what can they say about any other conservative nominee that isn't also true about her?
She's a Christian. (can't complain about that now)
She is strongly Pro-Life. (can't complain about that now)
She was loudly touted as an "originalist." (can't complain about that now)
She was described by the media as "very conservative." (can't complain about that now)
She was very close to the Pres., personally and professionally. (can't complain about that now and no one else is likely to be as close in either arena)
Janice Brown would be perfect. Black (came of age when Jim Crow still existed), female (passed the bar before feminism set women free), popular in liberal CA, great credentials, no substantial ties to the WH AFAIK, single mom...
Love to see her respond to Shumer's or Biden's smarmy innuendos disguised as "questions."
She withdrew herself while the President stood behind her. Pretty much says it all.
Don't forget Limbaugh and Bjork participated in a big TV buy that targeted Miers as unqualified.
None of the cognoscenti would wait for the Constitutional remedy of a Judiciary Hearing and an "up or down" vote. When Senators Brownback and Graham caved and asked the impossible rather than forthrightly opposing her, there was little left for her to do.
Bad manners, bad judgment and bad politics IMHO. By the way what ever happened to the "up or down vote" --guess it just applies to the pundits now.
"Don't forget Limbaugh and Bjork ..."
So Rush has tied up with an iconoclastic Icelandic singer?
With a heavy emphasis on "IMHO."
The Miers nomination was a disaster on its face and to the bone. We didn't have to see that pig on ice skates to know it had no business being in the Olympics.
