In a real way I detect an enormous self pity in Charles.
Charles was raised in an era when the British monarchy was expected to embody stiff upper lip, iron self control, emotionally dead Victorian public school values. It takes a tremendous amount of emotional deprivation (like removing maternal love from his childhood) to produce a cold fish like Prince Charles. But all along he was told that it was his duty so suck it up and dry your eyes.
But what does he find ? People loved the Diana who wore her heart on her sleeve and they didn't love him. Maybe he had been raised to embody values that nobody wanted or believed in anymore. Maybe all that emotional deprivation and unhappiness was for nothing.
Charles strikes me as a man who feels cheated, betrayed. He was sold a bill of goods all his life and it was for nothing.
I'm not all that sure that your average Muslim is gonna be all that happy having an adulterous bonehead who wanted to be reincarnated as his mistress's feminine protection pleading their case.

Me thinks, if he was allowed it, the Prince of Wales would join the Green Party. I mean, not enough that his main hobbie are doing agriculturing and riding horses (outside and inside the bedroom), but his political views are "strange".

I think Westminster has the ultimate say in deciding who can be put on the throne. If the Prince of Wales slips up (like converting to Islam), or if he dies in some sort of freak accident (hint: many people claim that the MI5 will be so expert on covert operations that no one will ever know what they actually did), or the Queen sets up a parliament-approved will that the throne passes to William instead.
If the Queen lives to be 100, the chance is Charles could be bed-ridden ill at that time and William could be a Regent in that case.
Don't know if it's been mentioned here yet, but is it a coincidence that today Queen Liz dedicated a memorial to the most recent bombing victims? And chucky chose to be here, pleading the Islamic case?
Usually royal engagements need months in preparation, and I;m willing to cut some slags on him. In addition, not all members of the royal family will join in engegements of such scale (unlike major ones like Final victory iN WOT) - this is what the protocols dictate.
Still, it is an immense insensitivity for Prince Charles to mention about "tolerance" in light of what the Queen is attending.
